Outside forces are driving disruption in the industry. Our faculty members will offer perspectives to give you and your peers fresh insights as you enter the fall planning season. Some have a long track record working in or with the insurance industry; some brought extensive experience in other industries to their current insurance positions; and others add a perspective based on careers elsewhere.

Mukul Ahuja

Mukul Ahuja, Strategy & Innovation Leader, Monitor Deloitte

Mukul is a strategy and innovation leader at Monitor Deloitte, and advises global and Canadian financial services clients on formulating and activating their growth and differentiation agenda. Mukul's most impactful work in the insurance industry has been at the convergence of customer, innovation and digital with many of the largest insurers in Canada, a sector in which he has led 50+ engagements over the last decade ranging from enterprise vision and customer journeys, to new concept development and digital transformation.

Mukul is frequently asked to speak at major industry events and conferences on digital disruption and innovation, and the future of insurance, and recently authored Deloitte's renowned whitepapers called “P&C Insurance Re-imagined 2025” and “The Retailization Of Insurance: Designing For Trust.”

Mukul holds a Masters of Business Administration from the Ivey Business School, and a Bachelors of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Calgary. Prior to Monitor Deloitte, Mukul worked as a process design specialist, and has successfully launched several startup ventures in the past.


Matteo Carbone

Matteo Carbone, Founder & Director, Connected Insurance Observatory

Matteo is Principal in Bain & Company's Financial Services and Digital Practices, Founder and Responsible of the Connected Insurance Observatory, international thought leader in InsurTech, Top 50 InsurTech influencer.

He is strategic consultant on the Insurance sector, with a specialization on innovation.

Since 2006 he advised many International Insurance Groups and has wide experience which include set up of industrial and commercial plans, growth strategy definition and support in the start-up of new initiatives, digital strategy development, insurance products development, channel strategy and commercial model definition and advice M&A deals.

Prior to Bain, Matteo was at Valdani Vicari & Associati. He graduated in Business Administration at Bocconi University.


David A. Crozier

David A. Crozier, President & CEO, Everest Insurance Company of Canada

David A. Crozier is president and chief executive officer of Everest Canada, and chair of the Investment Committee of the Board of Directors. He and his team are responsible for all primary underwriting and claim operations of Everest Insurance® in Canada.

Dave was previously senior vice president, operations, at Economical Insurance responsible for all field underwriting operations, specialty divisions, subsidiaries, claims, and sales & marketing. He was president, Economical Financial, chairman of Family Insurance Solutions of Vancouver, and vice chairman of Mattei Insurance Services of Seattle.

He joined Economical in 2006 from Chubb Insurance Company of Canada, where he had most recently been vice president, prairies. Through his career at Chubb he held positions of increasing responsibility that include manager of an energy, property & marine department in Vancouver, regional marketing & sales manager for western Canada and vice president of personal insurance in Ontario. He began his career with Continental Canada (now Northbridge Insurance) in 1992 as a commercial underwriter in the Toronto and Vancouver offices.

Dave was co-founder and a member of the board of directors of Slingshot Communications Inc., a marketing and communications company. He recently concluded his term as a member of the Governing Committee of the Nuclear Insurance Association of Canada.

With a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Guelph, Mr. Crozier also holds both his Chartered Insurance Professional and Canadian Risk Management designations.


Mark Dowds

Mark Dowds, Co-Founder, Trōv

Mark Dowds co-founded Trōv – the world's first on-demand insurance platform – in 2012, and today he is accountable for all revenue, strategy and international growth in his role as Chief Strategy Officer.

Mark has more than 20 years of experience as a serial entrepreneur and has helped get dozens of ventures off the ground through his Canadian-based incubators Fresh Initiatives and Creationstep.


Doug Grant

Doug Grant, Partner, Insurance-Canada.ca

Doug Grant has been helping the insurance industry in Canada make effective use of technology for many years. From a business-impact and application perspective, he has helped individual companies and cross-industry groups in both Property & Casualty and Life insurance.

The progress of technology from the the basement computer room to the desk-top terminal and PC, to portable laptops to smartphones and tablets and now BYOD has been a fascinating journey. Processes extended to business partners through connected systems has continued to improve efficiency and timeliness.

The web brought the customer directly into the equation. Social functions have enabled new levels of connectedness, triggering the current focus on customer experience and engagement, which can paradoxically both enhance loyalty and increase freedom of choice.

Doug is a founding partner in Insurance-Canada.ca, a leading Canadian Insurance resource centre for consumer and insurance professional alike. He organizes and hosts regularly scheduled Insurance-Canada.ca conferences and other events.

Married with two sons, Doug is a recent migrant from house to condo (too much stuff – not enough space), both in the heart of downtown Toronto.


Natalie Ho

Natalie Ho, Vice President - Marketing & Brand, LOGiQ3 Group, Cookhouse Lab

In her current role as Vice President, Marketing & Brand, Natalie is responsible for leading and creating Marketing strategies for all lines of business across LOGiQ3 and its affiliated group of companies - APEXA, TAI, and Cookhouse Lab. In addition to this role, she also leads LOGiQ3 Group's internal innovation culture and strategy.

Upon completion of a with Honors Bachelors Degree in Actuarial Science and Statistics at the University of Toronto, Natalie pursued her career in the life reinsurance industry with LOGiQ3 where she has taken various roles in actuarial and consulting, but more recently transitioned her business focus to expanding and building LOGiQ3's business through her passion in Marketing and Innovation.

Natalie's interest in digital marketing, entrepreneurship, and innovation has also led her to create her own online community. With shy of 40,000 social connections across various platforms, Natalie has been recognized as a reputable Canadian online influencer and frequently speaks about authenticity, engagement, and building your own personal brand.


Catherine Kargas

Catherine Kargas, Vice President, MARCON

Catherine Kargas, MBA, is a business strategist with over 25 years of experience providing consulting advice to executives in the insurance, transportation (with an emphasis on alternative propulsion technologies) and energy sectors. She is the Vice President of the management consulting firm, MARCON, and the Chair of Electric Mobility Canada. She is a founding member of the Transportation Evolution Institute, an organization whose goal it is to anticipate changes related to the evolution of mobility, to develop optimal strategies of our collective benefit and to act as an instrument for their implementation.

Catherine has worked with numerous players in the P&C space, including insurance carriers and brokers. She is a member of the Insurance 2023 group and an Insurance-Canada.ca collaborator.


Bhanu Kholi

Bhanu Kholi, Partner and Digital Lead (Canada), Capco

Bhanu Kholi is a partner at Capco and the Digital Lead for Canada. Bhanu has delivered several Digital Strategy engagements and worked on large Integration, Portal, CRM and Analytics initiatives at large private/ public sector clients in a variety of sectors. Within Financial Services, he has led initiatives in Retail Banking, Risk and Capital Markets. He is currently leading a large Digital Transformation at one of Canada's top 5 banks.


Debbie Landers

Debbie Landers, Vice President - Cognitive Solutions, IBM Canada

Debbie Landers is the Vice President, Cognitive Solutions at IBM Canada. In this role, she leads a large cross-country team focused on working with our clients to find innovative new ways to grow and transform their businesses by leveraging IBM's investments in Cognitive Computing (Watson) and Cloud as well as our legacy of excellence in Consulting and Delivery Services, Analytics, Cybersecurity, Systems and Software. Today's unprecedented industry disruption caused by digital transformation means that businesses of all sizes have both new challenges and new opportunities which Debbie and her team, along with the rest of IBM and our partners, will work to help them address in ways that create new value and competitive advantage.

In her previous role, she was the Vice President of Innovation Investments for IBM Canada. Prior to joining the IBM Canada team in 2016, Ms. Landers held a number of global positions within IBM, including her most recent experience as the General Manager of Kenexa & Smarter Workforce.

Debbie is an active mentor to a number of protégés from across IBM. Ms. Landers also sits on the Board of Advisors for the University of Windsor Entrepreneurship Practice and Innovation Centre (EPICentre).

Debbie holds an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Western Ontario; a Diplome de Francais Practique, also from Western; and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Toronto.


Andrew Lo

Andrew Lo, President & CEO, Kanetix Ltd.

As President & Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Lo leads initiatives for Kanetix Ltd., Canada's largest online marketplace for insurance and financial services. He is also a Business Strategy Advisor for Ryerson University's DMZ helping to develop entrepreneurs and startup companies at Canada's largest startup incubator.

Andrew has many years of experience as a business and technology leader for FinTech companies such as Filogix and D+H, and has developed organizations from startups into industry shaping ventures with over 4,000 employees.


Jamie McDougall

Jamie McDougall, Vice President, Gore Mutual

Jamie McDougall is Vice President at Gore Mutual Insurance Company. Established in 1839, Gore Mutual is Canada's oldest Property & Casualty insurance company.

Jamie began his work with Gore Mutual in 2000 and has held various positions including: Vice President, Claims; Vice President, Underwriting Solutions; Vice President, Personal Insurance Solutions; and recently Vice President, Business Intelligence & Analytics. As the Vice President, Jamie is accountable for all actuarial and business analytics resources and keeping Gore Mutual at the forefront of developments in this dynamic area of the industry.

Jamie holds his MBA degree from the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary. His prior work experience includes coaching executives across multiple industries, as a Management Consultant in process improvement, performance management and strategy. Outside of the office, one will often find Jamie, a certified SCUBA instructor, underwater enjoying a dive or helping others discover this fascinating hobby.


Neil Mitchell

Neil Mitchell, Managing Director, Marsh Canada Limited

Neil is currently a member of Marsh Canada's Executive Committee and has previously served as the National Practice Leader for Marsh Canada's Consumer & Commercial Practice, consisting of Small - Mid Sized Enterprises, Commercial Programs (inclusive of third party distribution), Group Home & Auto and High - Net Worth/VIP Personal Lines. In leading the Practice his primary functional tasks include, business development, client management, program/product development, retail and third party distribution and systems management.


Chris Murumets

Chris Murumets, Co-Founder & CEO, LOGiQ3 Group; Co-Founder, Cookhouse Lab

As CEO and Co-Founder of LOGiQ3 Group, Chris' responsibility is to ensure growth of the entire organization, leverage synergies where possible, and explore opportunities to increase the footprint across the entire operations - LOGiQ3, APEXA, TAI, and Cookhouse Lab. Chris helps sets the strategic and innovative direction of these companies and is always trying to help direct these organizations to make insurance better.

Chris has been part of the insurance and reinsurance industry for over 25 years. Starting at Crown Life and later at Sun Life Chris's career spanned ceded administration, corporate actuarial, assets/liability management and reinsurance operations.

He has been active in many industry related organizations, holding positions such as President of the LOMA Society of Toronto, Executive Director to CAILBA, Past Chair and founding member of Reinsurance Administration Professionals' Association and VP, Woodsworth College Alumni Association at the University of Toronto, grooming and inspiring young minds.

A serial entrepreneur and someone who always wants to find a different way, Chris has helped lead the successful establishment of three start-up businesses, including the newest addition of Cookhouse Lab, the insurance industry's first open innovation space. Above all, Chris is thankful every day to love his job and work with friends.


Lorie Phair

Lorie Phair, Managing Director, Canadian Broker Network

Lorie is an accomplished business leader with 25+ years of insurance brokerage and business management experience.

Currently, Lorie is Managing Director of the Canadian Broker Network, the leading network of independent insurance brokers. Together, CBN members represent more than $1 billion in property casualty premiums as well as employee benefits, life and financial services with over 50 offices across Canada and more than 1,500 employees.

Prior to her current role, Lorie has served as the senior staff member for Canadian and international brokerages. Lorie also founded and managed a company which provided assessments, training, and consulting services for brokers, insurers, technical consultants and industry associations.

Throughout her career, Lorie has served on Boards and Committees for insurance industry associations, and not-for-profit community and health service groups. Lorie currently sits on the Insurance-Canada.ca Advisory Board.


Keith Raymond

Keith Raymond, VP - Research & Consulting, Novarica

Keith has extensive expertise in IT leadership, business and technology transformation, back-office operations, mergers and acquisitions, strategic sourcing, omni-channel distribution, and process improvement for property, casualty, life, annuities, and healthcare insurers and IMO's.

Prior to joining Novarica, Keith served as CIO/COO of Futurity First Insurance Group, an IMO distributor for a large portfolio of carriers, AVP of Distribution Systems and Field Technology for Mass Mutual, CIO of Trumbull Services (The Hartford), an application service provider and business process outsourcer for personal and commercial lines and CIO for FCFP a software development firm. Keith has also served as a Principal Consultant at HCL Technologies in North America.


Ido Segev

Ido Segev, Partner, McKinsey Insurance Practice

Ido Segev is a Partner in McKinsey & Company's Boston Office and a leader in the Firm's Digital Practice. Ido assists financial institutions in North America in Marketing and Sales and Customer Experience, with an emphasis on Digital. He co-launched McKinsey's Digital Quotient (DQ) to assess digital maturity of an organization which DQ allows organizations to assess their digital strengths and weaknesses.

Ido has an MBA from MIT- Sloan School of Management, and undergraduate degrees in Physics and Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Tel Aviv University. Prior to McKinsey, Ido worked for hi-tech companies including NICE Systems and Texas Instruments in Israel as a senior design engineer, and at ZS Associates advising companies on sales optimization. He was also an officer in the Israeli Intelligence Corps.


Jason Theodor

Jason Theodor, Director - Experience Design, Capco

Jason Theodor is Capco's Director of Imagination and Experience Design. With over 20 years in digital marketing, Jason continues to strive for new ways to connect the right audience with ideas that are strategic, memorable, and captivating. He recently completed the Machine Learning course at Stanford University, and tries not to play favourites between his Amazon Echo and Google Home devices.


Pat Van Bakel

Pat Van Bakel, President & CEO, Crawford & Company (Canada) Inc.

As President & CEO of Crawford & Company (Canada) Inc., Pat is responsible for all aspects of the Canadian organization. This includes national leadership and operational execution of all service divisions, including P&C Claims, Commercial Auto Services, Accident Benefit Claims, Marine Services, Global Technical Services, Catastrophe Services, Legal Services, Contractor Connection Services, Risk Management Services, Vehicle Appraisal Services, ClaimsAlert (contact centre) services, Class Action Services as well as Sales & Key Account Management across the organization.


Patrick Vice

Patrick Vice, Partner, Director - Products & Services, Insurance-Canada.ca

Patrick has more than 25 years of experience enabling technology and electronic commerce in the insurance and risk management communities. Patrick is a Founding Partner of Insurance-Canada.ca, Inc., the premier source for Canadian information on insurance & technology.

Patrick currently serves as Insurance-Canada.ca's Director of Products and Services, and sits on the company's Advisory Board. He edits the Intersection, Insurance-Canada.ca's blog, produces and hosts on-line and in-person events, and develops bespoke offerings for Insurance-Canada.ca's clients.

Throughout his career, Patrick has held senior management positions with insurance companies, distributors, consulting firms, and technology solution providers. He serves on boards and committees of various industry associations.

Patrick authors articles for leading trade publications and has spoken at insurance and technology conferences in Canada, the US, UK, Europe, and Bermuda.

Bobbi and Patrick Vice enjoy living and working in the heart of downtown Toronto, Canada.


Craig Weber

Craig Weber, CEO, Celent

Craig Weber is the Chief Executive Officer of Celent. He leads a team of associates spread across North America, Europe, Latin American, and the Asia-Pacific region. Craig is a passionate advocate for sensibly creating business value through technology. Celent has grown significantly since Craig became CEO in January 2012. In addition to maintaining the firm's traditional coverage of IT and business strategies, Craig has added coverage of innovation and emerging technologies. Craig is frequently featured as a speaker at industry events, and his comments on business and technology topics have appeared in USA Today, the Chicago Tribune, AP Newswire, Best's Review, Business Insurance, and Technology Decisions, and he has appeared on CNBC's On The Money.
