Announcing the 2020 ICTA Winners

Congratulations to the winners, runners-up, and finalists of the 2020 Insurance-Canada.ca Technology Awards! The winners, as selected by the ICTA jury, were announced on Feb. 25, 2020, at our 18th annual Technology Conference.

The organizations recognized at the ICTA awards ceremony are shown below; more information on all the nominees is available via the Nominees page. 2020 ICTA Winner & Runners-Up

This year's ICTA winner was Aviva Canada . Aviva leveraged predictive analytics to determine whether a damaged vehicle is repairable or a total loss immediately on receiving a First Notice Of Loss – reducing time, costs, and customer anxiety.

The first runner-up was Mitchell & Whale, who developed Quotey, a commercial-lines quoting and recommendation system which reduces endless telephone tag with clients to gather the right information to create insurer submissions

The second runner-up was Apollo Exchange. Representing several insurers, Apollo is an InsurTech startup marketplace which facilitates the digital quote, bind and issue of small business insurance by brokers or by their customers directly.

2020 People's Choice Awards

More than 2,200 PICTA ballots were cast this year, revealing a lot of enthusiasm around the contenders and their innovations. The difference between first and second place was less than 100 votes!

The ‘PICTA’ winner was Aviva Canada, as above.

The first runner-up was Duuo by The Co-operators, who leveraged technology by Slice Labs to create an easy-to-use insurance product for homeowners in the short-term rental market.

The second runner-up was Cognition+. The Cognition+ Mutual Insurance Community, with technology by BizXcel Inc., dramatically improved management information about financial, product, process and distribution performance.
