Toronto, ON (Feb. 12, 2020) – Brokers have been searching for an efficient way to close the practical skills gap between newly licensed and working brokers. The Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario (IBAO) is proud to announce the release of a new eLearning course that addresses this challenge.
New Broker Essentials is designed to provide a smooth transition for the newly licensed into their career as a broker. The course is available in two different versions.
The Student Version of the course, built from the ground up with the guidance of expert brokers, gives new brokers practical training on day-to-day tasks they’ll face at a brokerage through five modules:
- Brokerage Systems 101 – Learn about Broker Management Systems, Rating Services & Company Portals
- AutoPlus & MVRs – Learn what they are and how to use them
- HITS Reports – Learn what they are and how to use them
- Working with Your Underwriter – Learn the role they play and how to communicate while maintaining a productive relationship
- Handling Customers – Learn how to handle tough situations and common broker/client interactions
The Management Version of the course is aimed at managers who want to build an in-house training program. Managers will learn to prepare training schedules and lesson plans, create engaging activities and assess trainees. The course uses the modules listed above as a template to build upon to develop their own customized training.
“Our members identified training for the newly licensed broker as a gap in broker education that would greatly benefit their onboarding process,” said IBAO President Joseph Carnevale. “We sought to fill that gap as part of our push to bring more people into the broker channel. By giving managers the tools they need to create training specific to their brokerage processes and structure, we’ve empowered them to train new brokers in the unique way they’ll need to succeed at their brokerage.”
When an IBAO Member Brokerage sends a new hire to IBAO for RIBO Level 1 License training, they will receive the Student Version of this course as a complementary add-on to their registration. The course is also available to non-members for a fee.
“This course will free up resources at brokerages and should help get newly licensed individuals up to speed on the practical work of being a broker a lot more quickly,” said IBAO COO Brett Boadway. “Since every brokerage hires at different times and at different paces, both versions of the course are available on-demand online, allowing access to the content when it’s needed.”
