Agentic AI focuses on decision-making. An AI agent is a software program that can interact with its environment, collect data, and use the data to perform self-determined tasks to meet predetermined goals. Humans set goals, but an AI agent can independently choose the actions it needs to perform to achieve those goals.

Agentic systems, powered by advanced AI and machine learning algorithms, consist of multiple autonomous agents. They interact with other agents and systems to achieve specific goals.

A simple example Process steps when a claim arrives.

  1. Check for completeness (if inadequate, flag for review);
  2. Depending on the loss, assign an adjuster;
  3. Prepare a note for the insured/claimant and send;
  4. Process the FNOL further (e.g., is the vehicle repairable or salvage?).

Each step (unless flagged) could be a simple decision tree or involve an independent AI Agent.

Two or more of these connected make an Agentic System, with each agent making its own decisions but improving by learning from the other agents.

Equivalent potential examples abound in process streams across insurance.
