2012 Insurance-Canada.ca Technology Awards

Congratulations to the winners and finalists for 2012! The winners, as selected by the ICTA jury, were announced at the Insurance-Canada.ca Technology Conference in Toronto on March 5, 2012. Plaques were presented to the winners and to the finalists, including all members of groups which were part of these nominations.

The winners and then the finalists are listed below. We also extend our thanks to all of the nominees – and nominators – in the insurer, distributor, and supplier categories.

2012 ICTA Winners

The winner in the Insurer category was SGI Canada for the pioneering work implementing standards for downloading of broker copy of policy declaration pages and broker memos as part of their daily EDI download transactions.

This group project nomination also included Josslin Insurance Brokers, Zycomp Systems, and MASTERCOM.

The winner in the Distributor category was AP Reid for ZipSure.ca, a customer-facing fully automated insurance service targeted at tenants of larger landlords.

Jamie Reid, President, A.P. Reid Insurance and Co-Founder of ZipSure.ca accepts the award from Doug Grant while Paul Russell, Co-Founder of ZipSure.ca watches.

The winner in the Supplier category was RMS for iClarify, a validation and valuation tool that provides brokers and insurers with residential property intelligence.

2012 ICTA Finalists

The nine ICTA finalists, and group members, assemble on stage at the ICTA luncheon as the announcement of the winners and presentation of awards is about to begin.

Finalists in the Insurer category included The Economical Insurance Group for a business location intelligence platform allowing underwriters to map a location, analyze current in-force policies, recognize key exposures and evaluate aggregate risk.

Dianna Fioravanti, VP of Commercial Insurance, accepts the award.

Finalists in the Insurer category also included Unica Insurance (formerly York Fire & Casualty) for their project to directly connect Broker transactions from the BMS to Unica's systems.

This group project nomination also included Bowman & Gibson Insurance Ltd., Keal, and iter8.

Finalists in the Distributor category included Donovan Insurance Brokers for their overall use of technology, encompassing customer-facing and market-facing applications, and automated support for staff, allowing a focus on quality customer service.

Finalists in the Distributor category also included Ingle International for the technology they use to develop and operate micro-sites used by school administrators and student customers.

Robin Ingle, Chairman, accepts the award.

Finalists in the Supplier category included Allianz Global Assistance for its implementation of an online claims portal resulting in a high level of adoptions.

Jackie Kleinknecht, Director of Claims, accepts the award.

Finalists in the Supplier category also included Zycomp + MASTERCOM for the technology development and integration allowing downloading of broker copy of policy declaration pages and broker memos as part of their daily EDI download transactions. These are automatically filed at the broker without intervention.

Roger Dawson, president of MASTERCOM, accepts the award.

Group Projects Nominated

Group project nominations required that at least two members of the group be insurers and/or distributors and that the project facilitate the processing of common data or transactions.

The project members of the SGI Canada winning insurer nomination were:
- Josslin Insurance Brokers— accepted by Scott Wagler (below left)
- MASTERCOM — accepted by Roger Dawson, President (below centre)
- Zycomp Systems— accepted by Steve Zylak (below right)

The project members of the Unica Insurance finalist insurer nomination were:
- Bowman & Gibson Insurance Ltd. — accepted by Debbie Skitch (below left)
- Keal Technology — accepted by Renée Durepos, VP - Operations (below centre)
- iter8 — accepted by David Patrick, VP - Canadian Sales (below right)
