From Doug In Nepal

Our travels have taken us to Kathmandu in Nepal. On Monday morning we took a sightseeing flight along the Himalayan range as far as Everest – what a beautiful panorama.

Kathmandu reminds us much of other cities we have visited in poorer nations. Forty years ago, the valley was all rice paddies. Today, after decades of population increase, it is a crowded, bustling city.

Natural disasters here too – floods this year and in 2015 the big quake. Little evidence of damage remains in business and personal property. The monuments are slowly being restored, and they are being strengthened against future shocks. Our guide thinks improvements were not made to personal property, though, so I am glad to think of our insurance leadership in Canada in that regard.
