from Doug:

Usually I would spend Civic Holiday, yesterday (first Monday in August), participating in a heritage event. In Toronto, many of these events are held in City historical sites, in our case at Fort York. The strike by city workers ended late last week; hence this year nothing was ready for such events. The down-side, we didn't get to tell interested poeple about our piece of history; the upside, I felt as if I had a holiday. Although I may not have been favourably disposed to the strikers, I will thank them for the break.
