From Doug

As advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) develop, they are contributing to the development of autonomous vehicles which leverage sensors, algorithms and AI to operate without human intervention.

I first experienced early development of a self-driving farm tractor at the International Plowing Match in the 1960s.

In the 1990s, I took a ride on a self-driving tractor, a production model by a major manufacturer.

Much has changed since, and the technology continues to develop, enhanced by analytics, AI and GenAI.

For a farm tractor or other self-propelled machine, there are many factors at play.

Self-driving brings more precision, and hence reduced operating expenses.

On the other hand, the associated equipment whether for tillage, harvest or other use, is immensely more complex today than a decade ago. The person operating it can focus on the other parts of the operation, less on driving the machine.

Such modern equipment brings benefits, costs and productivity improvements.

Next week, autonomous self-driving in a different sphere.
