How will AI change insurance?

"Bring 'superpowers' to your P&C team" By Marc Low, KPMG in Canadian Underwriter Nov 2024. Points:

• AI is doing PhD-level reasoning "better than any human".
• The cost declined 90%+.
• GenAI: a top priority for Canadian insurance CEOs.
• Impacts the insurance value chain everywhere.
• Example: AI helping answer customer queries. "volume going to actual agents reduced by 55%; maintained quality."
• AI models are improving exponentially.

What Does AI Say About AI in P&C Insurance?

Tom Bobrowski asked DeepSeek: "What Does AI Say About AI in Insurance?" Well-written AI response, but without sources, difficult to verify. It notes that the insurance industry is straddling the first three of the five OpenAI-defined phases:

• Chat: “already ubiquitous” today.
• Reasoning: Generative AI isn't just regurgitating pre-programmed responses anymore; it's starting to think. (examples: Allstate and Progressive)
• Agent: AI starts to act autonomously.
• Innovation: game-changer. AI doesn't just optimize existing processes—it invents new ones, such as new insurance products tailored to niche markets.
• Organizations: AI doesn't just assist humans—it replaces them.

The future is here, powered by algorithms. Will AI will transform P&C insurance? Yes.

Will the industry embrace the change or get dragged into the new world? We will see, but regardless, the ride is going to be wild.
