ICTA: Value vs Innovation

Our annual ICTA awards focus on the “value” of a technology implementation.

The nomination must describe the technology used, and the value derived with some quantification being helpful. A small point solution often readily offers quantified benefits more readily than a major system replacement.

Two nominations in this issue – Saskatchewan Mutual (integrating policy inquiry) and Fuse Insurance (the commercial lines lead capture and management process). Both point solutions, with some statistics.

Both are recent implementations, so new or “innovative.” But innovative for Canadian P&C Insurance? One is quite common, so definitely not. The other is closer to industry innovation.

If you were on the jury (keeping in mind the People's Choice Award is just around the corner), would you consider innovation as a value?

• Does the nominee claim innovation as a value?
• Do they describe how being "innovative" is helping their business?
• What weight would you give "innovation" relative to other factors?

Each member of the jury brings his or her own experience and perspectives to determining relative value. More about this year's jury soon.
