CAA Insurance has seen a dramatic increase in use of its auto insurance telematics program. Worldwide there is steady growth in the combination of insurance and telematics. More dramatically, car manufacturers are positioning themselves as the collectors and providers of that data, and third parties are developing data exchanges.

On the home front, insurance player Hippo and ADT have partnered to offer ADT’s monitoring and installation services to new Hippo customers and extend Hippo’s smart home insurance discounts to ADT customers.

For businesses, Sedgwick introduced a cloud-based vaccination tracking program to support employers’ COVID-19 response plans. The program provides the collective vaccination status of employee populations for diseases like COVID-19, flu, etc. Health is a risk factor for insurance.

In marketing J.D. Power launched a real-time auto insurance customer loyalty tracking capability which could feed directly into an insurer’s marketing programs. The sophistication of data-driven marketing expands.

New examples of an expanding digital insurance ecosystem appear frequently. Managing data well and establishing business partnerships to take advantage will be essential.
