COVID-19 And A Haircut

After months of lockdown, my wife and I both felt we needed a haircut. Being seniors in Toronto, there are obviously tradeoffs to consider.

My wife allowed me do play hairdresser, and she was satisfied with the results – not too many people will see them anyway. I held off.

To my surprise, I discovered that my barber shop was open. The two barbers are both seniors – what are they thinking?

I arrived with my mask on. It came off for the appointment, but the barber wore his mask for the duration.

Now I feel lighter and cooler up top.

My current barber is the third I have used in the same shop in an out-of-the-way corner of Toronto's PATH system – an underground network beneath the city's central business district. I have been a customer for more than 30 years. They don't get much impromptu walk-in traffic; repeat customers and referrals are their lifeblood.

I neglected to ask about their experience of the pandemic in terms of its financial impact on their small business. I do hope they can ride it out successfully.
