From Doug

How the world has changed since my last visit to the dentist!

Back around the middle of the lockdown, I chipped a tooth. Last week I booked an appointment, and I went in first thing yesterday.

I received instructions in advance which indicated that the door would be locked; it was. The dental assistant – wearing a face shield and mask – opened the door, asked a few questions, checked my temperature, asked me to put my mask on, and then allowed me to enter.

Beyond reception are the treatment rooms, each with a new hanging plastic flap door added. Inside I could remove my mask – an obvious necessity for dental work.

Other than the dentist and assistants wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), the procedure itself was standard.

Afterward, an escort back to reception (which is protected by a big clear plexiglass barrier) for contactless payment.

Dentistry is back up and running – with some additional steps, but no major changes.

People, businesses and industries are adapting.
