Kanetix: Most Canadians think texting while driving should be a crime
A new survey conducted by Kanetix.ca finds that 84 per cent of Canadians think texting while driving should be a criminal offence, but we are more polarized on other distracted driving habits. This does not come as a surprise considering distracted driving fatalities in Ontario surpassed both impaired driving-related and speed-related fatalities last year, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.

IMS UBI Bootcamp: free webcast available for a limited time
At the 2014 Insurance Canada.ca Technology Conference, IMS presented an educational bootcamp on insurance telematics, providing an overview of the key information, business models, product strategies and data insights to ensure a winning usage-based insurance program. The panel included special guest speaker George Cooke, who is also an advisor to IMS. We received such good attendee feedback about the session that we have been asked to make the panel available to those whom missed it, or simply want to watch it again to take further notes.

Insurance Bureau of Canada takes aim at problem of cargo theft
Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) and Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) are joining forces, supported by four large Ontario police services, to launch a national program to fight cargo theft. The rapidly escalating crime is a significant problem in transportation hubs in southern Ontario, and in Vancouver and Montreal.
Economical Insurance and Federation Insurance will discontinue writing insurance in Newfoundland and Labrador
After a thorough review of its business in the province, Economical Insurance has announced that it will discontinue writing insurance in Newfoundland and Labrador beginning October 1, 2014.

The Cowan Foundation makes donations to Charities across Canada
The Directors of the board of The Cowan Foundation are pleased to report that donations in Canadian communities during 2013 benefited approximately 80 charitable organizations. Examples of recipients of funding during 2013 include Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada, Health Sciences at Conestoga College, and Girl Guides of Canada.
