Could it be that Canadian auto insurers will ultimately be driven to adopt pay-as-you-drive insurance schemes once consumers learn how to say “Telematics?” Rob Carrick wrote a piece in the personal finance section of the Globe and Mail last week; citing information from a recent J.D. Power report on consumer satisfaction in Canada, Carrick notes that while consumer satisfaction with auto insurers is up generally, there is a notable difference between Boomers and Gen Y.

Allstate Canada sues GTA clinics for fraudulent claims
Aware of the damage insurance fraud does to our system and the burden it puts on all Canadians, the Allstate Canada Group of Companies, including Allstate Insurance Company of Canada, Pembridge Insurance Company and Pafco Insurance Company, is making a point of cracking down on insurance fraud and bringing the fight directly to fraud perpetrators. The organization has a Special Investigations Unit (SIU) for the sole purpose of identifying and eliminating fraud.

Global Federation of Insurance Associations established
Thirty-one insurance associations (see attachment) representing 87 per cent of the worldwide insurance business formally established the Global Federation of Insurance Associations (GFIA) today.

Joe's Corner:

I guess the highlight of the weekend was “the jump,” which, having been postponed so many times that most of us believed it was never going to happen ... finally did. It kind of reminded me of the TV when we all watched televised NASA events, and Gene Kranz, who ran Mission Control, was a household name (Wow – that was a long time ago!). It was pleasant to see good news being made, and now on to the next challenge.
