The ICEF2015 faculty bring a depth of insurance or technology expertise – or both – to their sessions. Whether looking at the threat of disruption from outside, or being the innovative source of a significant change from inside the industry, the speakers have perspectives that will give you and your peers insights as you enter the Fall planning season. Take this opportunity to discuss these points of view with members of the faculty, and with your peers.

Scott Bielby

Scott Bielby, Digital and Mobile Strategist, CGI

Scott W. Bielby has more than 15 years of experience in the areas of consumer web strategy, software development, networks, mobile, cross-functional teams, product management and business process optimization with considerable expertise in the fields of insurance, banking, retail and iGaming.

He recently joined CGI's Insurance Information Services team where he is responsible for delivering mobile product solutions. Prior to that, Scott was the lead strategist with CGI's Customer Experience Practice and was responsible for delivering user-centric digital strategies and product roadmaps for many of Canada's industry leaders. He has worked with notable clients such as: The Brick, Manulife Financial, TD Canada Trust, RSA Insurance, Atlantic Lottery, Black's Photography, Bank of Montreal and PC Financial.

Scott's in-depth knowledge of both technology and business, combined with his user experience design approach, have helped him to become known for delivering solutions that are innovative, effective and engaging.


Andrew Bourne

Andrew C.M. Bourne, CPA, CMA, DIFA, CFF; Partner, BDO Canada

Andrew has exclusively practiced in the field of forensic and investigative accounting for over ten years. During this time, he has performed damage quantification arising from numerous commercial litigation disputes, commercial insurance claims, and fraud investigations. Andrew has assisted multinational corporations with large complex insurance claim preparation and has participated in investigations of fraud losses involving millions of dollars in misappropriation of funds.

Andrew heads up BDO Canada's Investigative Due Diligence Practice. He has prepared and delivered seminars to numerous insurance brokerages and industry groups.


Bob Burrows

Bob Burrows, CEO G4 Apps Inc.; Executive Committee Member, APMA Connected Vehicle Working Group

With experience and insight from his roles managing global businesses at Motorola and Magna International as well as senior executive roles in technology and sales at national telecommunications providers Bob focuses on bringing new technologies and services to improving vehicle safety, mobility and sustainability. The founding CEO of G4 Apps, a company dedicated to using technology to reduce fuel use and emissions while improving safety, Bob is an executive of Canada's Automotive Parts Manufacturers Association's Connected Vehicle Working Group. He persistently champions the benefits of connected and autonomous vehicles to the Canadian economy and Canadian technology companies, and advocates to all stakeholders in the Canadian vehicle eco-system in moving forward at a world leading pace.


Drew Collins

Drew Collins, Vice-President - Casualty, Totten Insurance Group

Drew Collins joined the Totten Group in January 2013 and currently serves as Vice President, Casualty. In this role, Drew is responsible for leading the Ontario Commercial Casualty Unit, as well as acting as a national resource supporting and developing Totten's industry leading suite of Casualty offerings.

Prior to joining Totten, Drew held progressively advancing roles within the Casualty operation of the JEVCO Insurance Company, including oversight of growth and development of selected niche product offerings in both the Commercial & Personal insurance arenas.

A graduate of Queen's University, Drew is committed to lifelong learning and has earned both the CIP and CRM designations. He is also very active within the industry, serving as an Ambassador within the Insurance Institute's Career Connections Program, as Immediate Past President of The Speaker's Club of the IIO, and regularly contributing to seminars and publications, with a particular focus on advancing mentorship opportunities within the insurance industry. For his dedication to service of the industry, Drew was honoured by the IIC as a National Emerging Leader Award recipient in 2012.


David A. Crozier

David A. Crozier, President & CEO, Everest Insurance Company of Canada

David A. Crozier is president and chief executive officer as well as chair of the Investment Committee of the Board of Directors for Everest Canada, one of Canada's fastest-growing specialty property and casualty companies, which recently added a Specialty Commercial division. Since joining Everest Canada in January 2013, Dave and his team have been responsible for all primary insurance underwriting, claim, marketing and administrative operations of Everest Re Group in Canada.

Dave was previously senior vice president, operations, at Economical Insurance responsible for all field underwriting operations, specialty divisions, subsidiaries, claims, and sales & marketing. He was president, Economical Financial, chairman of Family Insurance Solutions of Vancouver, and vice chairman of Mattei Insurance Services of Seattle.

He joined Economical in 2006 from Chubb Insurance Company of Canada, where he was most recently vice president, prairies. Through his career at Chubb he held positions of increasing responsibility that include manager of an energy, property & marine department in Vancouver, regional marketing & sales manager for western Canada and vice president of personal insurance in Ontario. He began his career with Continental Canada (now Northbridge Insurance) in 1992 as a commercial underwriter in the Toronto and Vancouver offices.

Dave was co-founder and a member of the board of directors of Slingshot Communications Inc., a marketing and communications company. He currently sits on the Governing Committee of the Nuclear Insurance Association of Canada.


Mike Fitzgerald

Mike Fitzgerald, Senior Analyst - Insurance, Celent

Mike Fitzgerald is a senior analyst with Celent's Insurance practice and is based in Cary, North Carolina. He has specific expertise in property/casualty automation, operations management and insurance product development. Mike's research focuses on billing, business process and operations, social media use in insurance, and distribution management.

Mike brings extensive industry experience to the analyst role. Prior to joining Celent, he was vice president of enterprise underwriting solutions at Zurich North America, where he led the evaluation of technology alternatives to support a new underwriting product development process. He held a number of positions at Royal & Sun Alliance, including a field operations regional executive role. His technology implementation experience includes the installation and maintenance of billing, automobile policy administration, and workers compensation automation. In the 1990s, Mike led an initiative which delivered one of the first global online technical underwriting and claims learning platforms in the industry.

Mr. Fitzgerald has a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Davidson College and an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. He is a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).


Eileen Greene

Eileen Greene, Vice President & Partner, Hub International

Eileen joined Hub International in 2007 in an executive sales position and in 2010 was appointed Vice President and Partner.

With over 20 years of insurance industry experience, Eileen works to provide clients with strategic advice, expertise and exceptional service. Eileen advocates and manages existing clients' expectations as well as anticipating and preparing for change and growth. Using “outside the box” thinking, Eileen ensures that her prospects and clients are met with a very high level of knowledge, coverage and confidence.

Aside from Eileen's obvious impact through the volume of new business that she develops, her impact is also felt by colleagues at all levels. Whether mentoring young producers, collaborating with veteran producers or using her extensive network to source sponsors, participants or performers for numerous charity events, Eileen consistently inspires others to succeed.

A true master in her line of work, Eileen exemplifies the importance of hard work, dedication and perseverance. With her vision, intelligence and presence, Eileen is a true leader and inspiration to the insurance industry as well as within her community. Her unwavering commitment to her clients, colleagues, community and family is a true reflection of her core values.

Eileen serves is a board member for Prostate Cancer Canada and is a Strategic Advisor to the Woman's Brain Initiative and Greenstone Clinic which is dedicated to the treatment and recovery of those with substance abuse issues. Eileen is a past board member for Bridgepoint Health, The Argos Foundation and the Ontario Chamber of Commerce. She is an avid skier, golfer, runner, mother and wife.

Eileen was honoured in 2013 with the HUB Legend award, which recognizes those who have consistently achieved new business production at the highest levels for five consecutive years and also named the Insurance Sales Award winner at the prestigious Women in Sales Awards honouring top women in sales internationally.


Anwar Haneef

Anwar Haneef, Financial Services Partner, IBM Watson

Anwar Haneef is a lead Partner in Watson's Financial Services practice. Based out of San Francisco, Anwar has 15 years of experience advising senior business and technology leaders in the Financial Services (Insurance/Retail Banking), Healthcare (Payer/Provider) and High-Tech industries.

Anwar works with leading Financial Services organizations around the globe to help them create a competitive advantage through Cognitive Computing. Prior to IBM, Anwar held leadership positions in the Customer Experience and Analytics practices at PwC and Diamond Management & Technology Consultants. Anwar was also the co-founder of enterprise startup, Red Rabbit Software, and prior to that, a senior researcher at Motorola Labs. Anwar has an MBA from the Univ. of Chicago Booth School of Business, MS from Univ. of Massachusetts Amherst and BTech from IIT Kharagpur.


Catherine Kargas

Catherine Kargas, Vice President, MARCON

Catherine Kargas, MBA, is a business strategist with over 25 years of experience providing consulting advice to executives in the insurance, transportation (with an emphasis on alternative propulsion technologies) and energy sectors. She is the Vice President of the management consulting firm, MARCON, and the Chair of Electric Mobility Canada. She is a founding member of the Transportation Evolution Institute, an organization whose goal it is to anticipate changes related to the evolution of mobility, to develop optimal strategies of our collective benefit and to act as an instrument for their implementation.

Catherine has worked with numerous players in the P&C space, including insurance carriers and brokers. She is a member of the Insurance 2023 group and an Insurance-Canada.ca collaborator.


Sharon Ludlow

Sharon Ludlow, President, Aviva Insurance Company of Canada

Sharon Ludlow is President of Aviva Insurance Company of Canada. Based in Toronto, she is responsible for the company's strategic direction and business operations in Canada. Previously, Sharon served as President & CEO of Swiss Re Canada. Her previous experience also includes senior executive finance positions in a commercial property & casualty insurance company and a life insurance company. She played a key role in the demutualization and IPO of Canada Life Financial and launched Kanetix – a consumers' online insurance quotation service company.

Sharon holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto and earned her CA designation in 1992. She also holds an FLMI designation.

Sharon serves as Director of the Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction and The Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) and previously for The Canadian Life & Health Insurance Association. She is a member of the Natural Catastrophe CEO Advisory Group of the IBC. She also serves as Chair, Solvency & Capital Committee and previously as a member of the Adaptation to Severe Weather Strategic Committee and the Earthquake Oversight Committee of the IBC. She served as a member of the Reinsurance Committee of the Canadian Life & Health Insurance Association; and as Chair and past-President of the Reinsurance Research Council.

Sharon was named by WXN one of Canada's Top 100 Most Powerful Women in 2013; and one of the Top 50 Women in the insurance industry by Reactions magazine.

Sharon has actively volunteered for Junior Achievement of Canada and has held Treasurer and President and Chair of the Board positions for various non-profit organizations.


Jessica Mahon

Jessica Mahon, Team Leader, Special Projects, Ontario Ministry of Transportation

Jessica is currently a Team Leader, Special Projects with MTO's Road Safety Policy Office where she is the lead advisor on the Impaired Driving, Distracted Driving, Autonomous Vehicles, and the Collection of Defaulted Provincial Offences Act Fines files.

Jessica is also involved in the high-profile road safety initiative, the Transportation Statute Law Amendment Act (Making Ontario's Roads Safer), 2015. This Act is the key piece of a broader package of legislative and subsequent supporting regulatory amendments to the Highway Traffic Act, Provincial Offences Act and Highway 407 East Act designed to achieve the government's policy objectives in improving road safety.

Prior to her role in the Road Safety Policy Office, Jessica also held the position of Case Management Coordinator/Hearing Officer. In this role, she represented the Registrar of Motor Vehicles before the Licence Appeal Tribunal in medical related appeals and appeals related to vehicle impoundments.


Cindy Maike

Cindy Maike, GM - Insurance, Hortonworks

Cindy Maike is GM of Insurance at Hortonworks, and is responsible for the center of excellence for insurance and the go-to-market strategy for the industry.

Cindy has more than 25 years of finance, consulting and advisory services experience in the insurance industry, assisting clients globally with their business and IT strategy, with a specific focus on the business strategy and the usage of analytics to drive results.


Jamie McDougall

Jamie McDougall, Vice President - Business Intelligence & Analytics, Gore Mutual Insurance

Jamie McDougall is Vice President, Business Intelligence & Analytics at Gore Mutual Insurance Company. Established in 1839, Gore Mutual is Canada's oldest Property & Casualty insurance company.

Jamie began his work with Gore Mutual in 2000 and has held various positions including: Vice President, Claims; Vice President, Underwriting Solutions; and recently Vice President, Personal Insurance Solutions. As the Vice President, Business Intelligence & Analytics, Jamie is accountable for all actuarial and business analytics resources and keeping Gore Mutual at the forefront of developments in this dynamic area of the industry.

Jamie holds his MBA degree from the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary. His prior work experience includes coaching executives across multiple industries, as a Management Consultant in process improvement, performance management and strategy. Outside of the office, one will often find Jamie, a certified SCUBA instructor, underwater enjoying a dive or helping others discover this fascinating hobby.


Bernard McNulty

Bernard McNulty, Head of Canada Claims, Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty Americas

Bernard joined Allianz Canada as Head of Claims in June 2015. In this role, Bernard is responsible for claims across all lines of business in Canada including Aviation, Marine, Engineered Risk, Casualty and Professional Liability. Bernard is also working to grow the Canadian claims team as AGCS significantly expands its suite of products in the wake of the Fireman's Fund integration.

Prior to his current role, Bernard was the Vice-President, Strategic Broker & Customer Development at RSA Canada. Bernard had senior responsibility for RSA's commercial business relationships with national brokers. He created and delivered specific growth, retention and profitability strategies, and managed remuneration budgets and structures for brokers. Prior to that, Bernard was responsible for Risk-Managed & Specialty Insurance at RSA. He was responsible for a $380m+ portfolio across various commercial lines including National Programs, Specialty Property, Specialty Casualty, E&O, D&O, Fidelity, Surety, Equipment Breakdown Insurance, Project Construction, Renewable Energy, Oil & Gas, Mining and Chemical Risks.

Prior to joining RSA, Bernard was the Sr. V.P. of Claims at GCAN Insurance. He also held progressive claims positions at ACE-INA Insurance, CGU Insurance and Lombard Canada over 18 years.

Bernard has a B.A. from The University of Toronto and holds an FIIC designation.


Sean Murphy

Sean Murphy, President, Lloyd's Canada

As President and Attorney in Fact for Lloyd's Underwriters, Sean acts as Lloyd's Underwriters' representative in Canada.

His responsibilities include regulatory and compliance activities in Canada, oversight of Canadian coverholders and open market correspondent brokers and market development promoting the Lloyd's brand in Canada. Sean also oversees the operations of Lloyd's offices in Toronto and Montreal.

Prior to joining Lloyd's in late 2005, Sean was the Chief Agent responsible for the Canadian operations of a major American domiciled property and casualty insurance company. He has held progressive positions in underwriting, marketing and operations with several property and casualty insurance companies over the last 20 years.


Greg Purdy, Managing Partner, Pathway Partners, Ltd.; getClarity, Inc.

With more than 25 years of experience in the insurance technology marketplace, Greg brings a unique perspective on how to build a successful company. In 17 years as C.E.O. of Applied Systems Canada Greg oversaw the growth in the Canadian marketplace from 200 brokers to over 1200. In 1992 Greg added the responsibility for international development and successfully established the UK operations with The Agency Manager UK.

In 2008, Greg formed Pathway Partners Ltd. with Michelle Cole-Kennedy to advise brokers on a wide range of operational and strategic topics with an emphasis on mergers and acquisitions.

In 2011 Greg played a key role in the launch of getClarity Inc, a business intelligence company that focuses on bringing sophisticated demographic and statistical analysis to businesses of all sizes. With over 1.7 million records of new data on a monthly basis getClarity identifies timely market opportunities and as a result maximizes the return on investment.

Brenda Rose

Brenda Rose, Technology Champion, Insurance Brokers Association of Canada; Partner, FCA Insurance Brokers

Brenda Rose is a partner at FCA Insurance Brokers, a privately-held commercial brokerage based in Toronto. Since 1985, she has spent virtually her entire insurance career at FCA in a variety of roles, which currently include a specialization in cross-border placements and overall operations management. She holds a CIP designation as well as an honours BA from Trinity College at the University Toronto.

Brenda is an active volunteer and advocate for brokers with the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada, including responsibilities as a national Technology Champion. She is a past director of IBAC and past president of the Toronto Insurance Conference, where she continues to chair the Excise Tax committee. She also participates in several committees at the Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers in the US.


Kareem Sandid

Kareem Sandid, Chief Actuarial Officer, Totten Insurance Group

Kareem Sandid joined Totten Insurance Group (Totten) in April 2014 as the Chief Actuarial Officer and is a key differentiator for Totten in the Canadian MGA space. Charged with managing and harnessing Totten's data flows, Kareem drives operational/risk grading efficiencies and supports the business to maximize profitability for insurer-partners.

Bringing with him a wealth of industry experience at leading domestic carriers, Kareem's unique talents and data-driven insights are heavily leveraged in support of Totten's key niche specialties. Prior to joining Totten, Kareem worked for two of Canada's leading insurers and started his career in a corporate actuarial department. Later, he relocated to pricing where he was responsible for the actuarial function for large accounts and Canada's largest programs department.

Kareem holds an Honours Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Sciences from the University of Western Ontario, where he graduated on the Dean's list. He continues to excel in working with insurers to ensure products and pricing reflect the clients experience and risk management initiatives.


Maureen Tomlinson

Maureen Tomlinson, MBA, CPA, CMA, FCIP, CRM; VP - Products & Solutions, SCM

Maureen is currently responsible for the day-to-day operations and running of SCM data and analytical products and solutions for the P&C industry, improving and growing SCM's data, managing relationships and overseeing research and development projects to capitalize and exploit SCM's vast data assets.

Maureen has been part of the insurance industry for 17 years and has been with SCM for the past two years. She has worked in and across the Property and Casualty industry in a variety of roles, from distribution to underwriting to automation, creating a wide breadth of experience and knowledge to draw from in order to solve problems and create business value. Maureen is an execution oriented expert at translating strategy into action – and is talented at exploring and exposing new opportunities for her clients.

Maureen has a Master's of Business Administration, with an undergraduate in Economics and Psychology, is a Chartered Professional Accountant in Management Accounting, is a Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional and Certified Risk Manager.


Matthew Turack

Matthew Turack, BBM, CIOP, RT; President, CAA Insurance & Orion Travel Insurance

Matthew is a dynamic, team-oriented, and innovative President who possesses excellent interpersonal, analytic, and project management skills. Over Matthew's 16 years of insurance experience he has successfully led teams of underwriters, actuaries, claims and sales/service professionals in product design, rate making and the development of risk models. Matthew has been honoured to speak at several insurance industry events about his success and experiences in implementing industry leading technologies.

Matthew holds a Bachelor in Business Management degree; completed the Business Design Program at the Rotman School of Business, and is a Chartered Insurance Operations Professional. He is also currently completing his Certified General Accountant designation.

Matthew is a devoted husband and father of two girls, and an avid golfer.

Doug Grant

Doug Grant, Partner, Insurance-Canada.ca

Doug Grant has been helping the insurance industry in Canada make effective use of technology for many years. From a business-impact and application perspective, he has helped individual companies and cross-industry groups in both Property & Casualty and Life insurance.

The progress of technology from the the basement computer room to the desk-top terminal and PC, to portable laptops to smartphones and tablets and now BYOD has been a fascinating journey. Processes extended to business partners through connected systems has continued to improve efficiency and timeliness.

The web brought the customer directly into the equation. Social functions have enabled new levels of connectedness, triggering the current focus on customer experience and engagement, which can paradoxically both enhance loyalty and increase freedom of choice.

Doug is a founding partner in Insurance-Canada.ca, a leading Canadian Insurance resource centre for consumer and insurance professional alike. He organizes and hosts regularly scheduled Insurance-Canada.ca conferences and other events.

Married with two sons, Doug is a recent migrant from house to condo (too much stuff – not enough space), both in the heart of downtown Toronto.


Patrick Vice

Patrick Vice, Partner, Director - Products & Services, Insurance-Canada.ca

Patrick has more than 25 years of experience enabling technology and electronic commerce in the insurance and risk management communities. Patrick is a Founding Partner of Insurance-Canada.ca, Inc., the premier source for Canadian information on insurance & technology.

Patrick currently serves as Insurance-Canada.ca's Director of Products and Services, and sits on the company's Advisory Board. He edits the Intersection, Insurance-Canada.ca's blog, produces and hosts on-line and in-person events, and develops bespoke offerings for Insurance-Canada.ca's clients.

Throughout his career, Patrick has held senior management positions with insurance companies, distributors, consulting firms, and technology solution providers. He serves on boards and committees of various industry associations.

Patrick authors articles for leading trade publications and has spoken at insurance and technology conferences in Canada, the US, UK, Europe, and Bermuda.

Bobbi and Patrick Vice enjoy living and working in the heart of downtown Toronto, Canada.
