Toronto, ON (Dec. 12, 2018) – Six new insurance carriers have received the CSIO Certification of Compliance, bringing the total number of certified carriers to 19. This certification recognizes carriers that exclusively use standardized CSIO coverage codes instead of custom codes (known as Z-Codes) in their data download to brokers.
CSIO congratulates Ayr Farmers Mutual, Dumfries Mutual, Edge Mutual, Germania Mutual, Howick Mutual and Lambton Mutual on eliminating their Z-codes and achieving the Certification of Compliance.
“I am very proud that so many of our CAMIC members have achieved Certification of Compliance,” says Normand Lafreniere, President of the Canadian Association of Mutual Insurance Companies. “Our member companies have been working toward the goal of eliminating Z-Codes for a long time, and we are pleased to be able to improve the workflow for our trading partners, ultimately providing a better experience for our members (customers).”
Z-Codes are not recognized by broker management system (BMS) vendors and as a result creates inefficiencies for both vendors and their broker partners.
Supporting Industry Certification
CSIO supports industry certification efforts by hosting monthly National Standards Working Groups, where members collaborate to discuss new codes and overall enhancements to the standards. This frequency ensures that carriers’ current and emerging business needs are ready to support innovative products and solutions without the need for Z-Codes.
Further, CSIO works with carriers to analyze their Z-Codes and identify which ones may be replaced with existing standardized codes. As a result of these efforts, brokers can expect to see a sustained decline in Z-Codes, improving the customer data in their BMS over time.
“It is wonderful to see so many carriers make strides towards certification and come together at working groups,” says Catherine Smola, President & CEO of CSIO. “Our industry’s growing commitment to standardized codes will help achieve seamless data exchange between carriers and broker management system (BMS) vendors, improving the quality of client data available to brokers everywhere.”
