InsureMy strives to drastically reduce fatalities and provide much-needed young driver resources
Calgary, AB (May 13, 2016) – InsureMy Ltd., a Calgary-based, full-service insurance brokerage firm, has announced the launch of their #DriveToThrive social media campaign, a safety initiative focused on preventing teens from driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
Designed to coincide with the graduation season, the #DriveToThrive program is an effort to reduce the heightened risk for young drivers during this time of celebration.
This is just the beginning, however; through this campaign, InsureMy seeks to increase the dialogue between generations, provide positive feedback and resources for teens, and deliver increased peace of mind to parents, while saving lives.
Be the life AFTER the party…a small message with big implications!
Targeting teens, “Be the life AFTER the party” is the message at drivetothrive.ca, where young drivers are encouraged to take a pledge on-line to choose safe alternatives for a ride home on grad night, or any other. Designating a driver, planning ahead and arranging a safe place to stay, calling a cab or driving alternative, or having a sober friend or family member on-call are some of the many alternatives available to teens at drivetothrive.ca.
Empowering young adults with information and resources to make smart choices that could ultimately impact some very bright futures is one of the many ways InsureMy is looking at changing the way Canadians look at road safety. “Be the life AFTER the party” is a small message with big implications.
Changing minds to change the statistics…
- Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among 16-25 year olds.
- Alcohol and/or drugs are a factor in 55% of these crashes.
- 36.6% of teen drivers killed in road crashes had been drinking.
“These numbers are shocking … but preventable,” said Hugh McTavish, President of InsureMy Ltd. “Shining a light on the realities of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol allows us to start conversations, in our homes, in our schools and among our peers. We can choose to ignore that our young adults are using these substances, or we can choose to educate them and support them in making smart decisions.” McTavish continued, “At InsureMy, we’ve decided to take a proactive stand in trying to prevent the potentially tragic outcomes that may result from the bad decisions young-drivers can make. Together with our industry partners, we can work to change minds, to change the statistics.”
It takes a village … partners for ‘life’
The drivetothrive.ca website not only invites teens to take the pledge, but also provides a robust resource section for schools and other organizations to get on board. InsureMy’s message is clear: road safety is everyone’s responsibility and they are challenging other organizations and community groups to use their voice and media platforms to grow #DriveToThrive awareness. “We’re looking for partners for ‘life’,” said McTavish, “aligning with programs such as SafeRoads.com from the Alberta Ministry of Transport, one of our goals is to eliminate traffic deaths. It is within our reach and getting teens started on the right foot, is a big step toward making that goal a reality,” McTavish concluded.
