Toronto, ON (May 16, 2014) – Aviva Canada, a leading provider of home, auto, recreational vehicle, group and business insurance, has announced that its Aviva Community Fund has teamed up with the not-for-profit organization Kindness Counts to encourage Canadians to perform random acts of kindness.
“The campaign is called #FeedTheDeed, and it was created by Kindness Counts to inspire individuals to practice and spread kindness. Our belief is that when someone experiences an unexpected act of kindness, it can be contagious and trigger positive change,” said Debora Hendrickson, Senior Vice President of Customer and Marketing for Aviva Canada.
“The spirit of giving and kindness that is so central to the Aviva Community Fund phenomenon is also the driving force behind #FeedTheDeed,” Hendrickson continued. “We’re proud of the positive change that the Aviva Community Fund has created for people across Canada, and we believe that small random acts like delivering baked goods to a Woman’s Shelter or cutting a neighbour’s lawn are just as powerful.”
“Imagine the potential impact random acts of kindness could have if every Canadian stepped up to help each other out,” she added.

How do I get involved with #FeedtheDeed?
Follow these 3 simple steps to contribute and help inspire other Canadians:
- Take part in a random act of kindness such as buying a coffee for the person behind you in line, donating some clothes to a homeless shelter, bringing lunch to colleagues at work or topping up the parking meter for strangers. The ideas are endless and people are encouraged to be creative in how they share kindness.
- While performing your act of kindness, remember to document it. Take a picture, film it or make note of it.
- Post a story, image, or video to Facebook and then nominate at least 2 friends to perform a random act of kindness as well.
Remember: Use both hashtags #FeedtheDeed and #AvivaCF with your post to help share your acts of kindness. Also, the friends you nominate don’t have to perform the same act as you – they can pick any act of kindness they’d like to do!
Launched in September 2009, the Aviva Community Fund encourages Canadians to share ideas and vote online at AvivaCommunityFund.org for causes that are meaningful to their communities. After several rounds of voting to identify Canada’s favourite ideas, a panel of independent judges is tasked with reviewing the causes and selecting the winners. To-date, the Aviva Community has donated over $4.5 million to over 90 charity and community groups across Canada.
