Anticipating A Driverless City

MARCON Mobility Newsletter

Montreal, QC (Feb. 21, 2014) – The city of the future continues to attract interest, as well it should. After all, many of us will live there – depending on how distant into the future one is looking. A recent student competition used Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love, as its subject. The students responded to the challenge of describing the city if both mass transit and personal vehicles drove themselves and could communicate with people and each other. They would be part of the burgeoning “Internet of Things.”

Not surprisingly, they anticipate a time where traffic congestion is diminished and the streetscape has evolved at least in part to be pedestrian-centric.

Read the newsletter (PDF), also carries a number of brief news items on people anticipating cities with driverless cars, taxis vs car and ride sharing, rideshare insurance, more entrants into the driverless car race, etc.
