High River, AB (Aug. 12, 2013) – Western Financial Group raised a record $137,845 through its annual Support The Cause Day walk, which this year took place on May 29. More than 1,500 Western Financial Group employees from more than 100 locations across Western Canada participated in the 5km walk. The money raised from the event supports the Western Communities Foundation which gives to community infrastructure projects, student bursaries, Habitat for Humanity, a Vision Care program and more in the communities Western Financial Group serves. Western’s Support The Cause Day walk has raised more than $563,000 since 2005.
“Last year, Support The Cause Day raised nearly $90,000 for the Western Communities Foundation,” said John Jenner, executive director of the Western Communities Foundation. “This year, our goal was to surpass that total and we certainly did, raising more than we’ve ever raised before. Our success speaks to the dedication of our employees and their commitment to the communities they live and work in.”
To help raise money, Western donated $50 per participating employee which was topped up by pledges employees personally gathered from members of their community.
The Western Communities Foundation was founded by Western Financial Group in 2001 as a non-profit organization under the Income Tax Act of Canada.
