Aurora, ON (Apr. 27, 2013) – Affordable housing is an issue facing millions of Canadians. With 14% of Canadian children living below the poverty line (according to Statistics Canada’s 2009 Income in Canada), making affordable housing available is paramount to helping break the cycle of poverty.
Habitat For Humanity and State Farm have been working together to help bring awareness to this issue. Thanks to the efforts and dedication made by State Farm agents, their team members and those in the community, Habitat for Humanity Durham will be receiving $4000 to benefit revitalization efforts in Oshawa.
State Farm Agent Nina Romano led the charge as she, her fellow Durham Region area agents and their team members raised $2500 for Habitat Durham. With an additional $1500 being donated by State Farm, Habitat Durham will be presented with a cheque for $4000 to be used to build affordable housing and promote homeownership.
“I wanted to get involved with Habitat Durham because years ago I remember my dad got involved with the organization and donated his time for a project in Dufferin County,” explains Nina Romano, State Farm Agent in Oshawa. “It’s great to give back to the community and to see people volunteer their time for such wonderful causes. I want to encourage other people to get involved, whether it’s donating their time and expertise, building materials, or food for the volunteers, anyone can do it!”
