Economical ranks 19th globally for on-the-job learning and development

Waterloo, ON (Feb. 19, 2013) – For the fourth consecutive year, Economical Insurance, one of Canada’s leading property and casualty insurers, is once again among the Top 20 of Training magazine’s annual Top 125 list of leading organizations that excel in workforce learning and development. Economical was selected to join the prestigious global Top 125 list from among hundreds of submissions from around the globe.

At a gala ceremony in Orlando, Florida, Monday night, Economical was awarded 19th place.

“This speaks volumes about the quality and success of our employee, leadership and broker training and development,” said Mary Beth Alexander, Economical’s assistant vice-president of organizational development and corporate marketing. “Our dedicated team of training professionals remains committed to designing and delivering the highest quality learning programs that elevate performance and productivity.”

In 2012, Economical developed new and innovative programs including a strategy breakout involving high-potential leaders from across the company. The 24 participants exceeded senior executive expectations and presented valuable input with substance and ownership, while gaining an enhanced appreciation of the challenges in creating a comprehensive corporate strategy.

The company is also proud of the tremendous success of its industry-leading achievements in virtual training, which covers multiple subject matter areas. “Our program gives rapid ‘anywhere-anytime’ training to our employees and leaders in large forums by leveraging technology solutions,” said Alexander. “In 2012, our workforce of 2,400 people completed 17,000 eLearning courses. That’s seven courses per person in a single year.”

“We are delighted to be recognized for the fourth consecutive year as a global leader in training, learning and development,” said Dean Bulloch, Economical’s senior vice-president and chief human resources officer. “Investing in our employees’ development and success greatly enhances our company’s long-term competitiveness, and helps attract and retain the best and brightest talent available.”
