Eight Canadian insurance carriers certified for leading eDoc standard

Applied Systems offers the most comprehensive system for managing eDocs using the latest CSIO XML electronic document standard

Mississauga, ON (Feb. 12, 2013) – Applied Systems announced today that it has certified eight Canadian insurance carriers for the Centre for Study of Insurance Operations (CSIO) eDoc XML standard for the transmission of electronic documents between insurance carriers and brokerages. The CSIO XML eDoc standard creates operational and cost efficiencies for brokerages and improves customer service and retention through enhanced data exchange. The standard is supported in Applied Systems TAM® 12 broker management system and will be supported in Applied Systems Epic 7, which will launch in Canada and the United States in early 2013.

Adopting a more advanced eDocs standard has been a priority for the Canadian insurance industry. Applied Systems is committed to furthering standards in the Canadian market through adoption of the CSIO XML eDoc standard, which offers enhanced functionality to brokers over previous versions. Applied Systems took an active role in defining this specification so that it provides broad value to the insurance industry.

The carriers certified for the CSIO XML eDoc standard are:

“Greater real-time information exchange between insurance carriers and brokerages is critical for driving sales and growth,” said Sean Christie, chief information officer, Gore Mutual Insurance Company. “With the new eDoc standard, insurers can deliver electronic documents directly to broker offices where they can be loaded automatically to their in-house broker management systems. This reduces the manual effort that currently exists when downloading documents through insurance company portals.”

“We are very pleased to see that adoption of the CSIO eDocs standard has been steadily increasing in recent months,” said Catherine Smola, President of CSIO. “The eDocs initiative is a great example of CSIO’s continued progress toward improving the competitiveness of the broker channel by developing leading-edge technology standards and solutions for the P&C industry.”

The standard provides brokerages with a configuration that makes routing of documents and attachments seamless. It also provides for custom brokerage workflows, which allow access to all information required to serve clients from within a broker management system’s client files. This advancement can reduce cost and improve customer service and retention for the brokerage.

“Applied Systems is committed to driving the development and adoption of technology standards that benefit the insurance industry as a whole,” said Jeff D. Purdy, senior vice president and general manager for Applied Systems Canada. “The certification of leading insurance carriers on the CSIO XML eDoc standard underscores the importance of technology that advances real-time information exchange in insurance.”
