IBAO Honours Ontario’s Best Brokers

Association acknowledges Broker network for community and professional contributions at 92nd Annual Convention

Toronto (Oct. 22, 2012) – The Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario (IBAO) recently hosted its 92nd
Annual Convention in Toronto, which included its prestigious Awards of Excellence Gala recognizing prominent
insurance brokers and brokerages throughout Ontario.

IBAO’s membership includes over 12,000 brokers across the province and this annual awards event serves to
highlight the achievements and initiatives of its most outstanding members, through their local work as
businesspeople and as involved and caring citizens. The recipients were selected for their community and
professional contributions, examples of the great impact insurance brokers have on their communities.

“We are very proud to announce the list of brokers who were recently recognized for their incredible community
involvement and tremendous commitment to their clients needs,” said IBAO CEO Randy Carroll. “It’s a pleasure to
honour these individual and team efforts for their astounding representation to their profession and what it truly
means to be a broker, as well as for their dedication to serving the communities in which they live and work.”

The winners of the 2012 IBAO Awards of Excellence were:

  • Broker of the Year — Peter Blodgett, Darling Insurance & Realty Ltd., Peterborough, ON
    Peter has served for several years on the IBAO Board of Directors and Executive Committee, most recently as
    chairman in 2010. His community involvement is vast as he donates to over 100 local charities, and his brokerage
    has raised nearly $75,000 charitable dollars each year. Eleven years ago, Peter founded the “Three Loonies on the
    Street” charity event which raised $150,000 this year alone for the local food bank. In 2008, Peter was presented
    with the Mayor’s Award for his community involvement and in 2011 he received the Citizen’s Award. Most
    recently, Peter was honoured with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Award bestowed to those who have made
    significant contributions in their communities
  • Young Broker of the Year — Scott Maskell, Glenny Insurance Broker Ltd. Fort Eerie, ON
    Scott recently took on the role of President of the , serves as Treasurer at his local tennis club, is a proud member of
    the Progressive Conservative Association (Niagara Falls Region), and helps to coordinate a number of local blood
    donor clinics in the area.
  • Affiliate of the Year — London Insurance Brokers Association (LIBA), London, ON
    LIBA represents 12 main office brokerages in London and organizes a variety of charity events throughout the year.
    One of LIBA’s proudest charitable involvements includes their gold level sponsorship of London’s Motorcycle Ride
    for Dad, whose mission is to raise funds to save men’s lives by supporting prostate cancer research and raising
    public awareness of the disease. LIBA also sponsors the London Firefighter Department colouring book initiative
    and is heavily involved in the London Santa Claus Parade and the London Business Cares Food Drive every year.
  • Brokerage of the Year (<10 employees) – Affiliated Insurance Management Inc., Oakville, ON
    Affiliated Insurance Management Inc. is very proud of its community involvement which includes providing
    assistance to a local church camp through donations and volunteer work, while also supporting the Heart and Stroke
    Foundation.
  • Brokerage of the Year (>10 employees) — Donovan Insurance Brokers Inc., Kitchener-Waterloo
    President of Donovan Insurance Brokers Inc., Kevin Donovan has been Chairman of the Ontario General Insurance
    Hockey Tournament for over a decade which has raised over $30,000 for Camp McGovern, an affiliate of Big
    Brothers and Big Sisters. In addition, Donovan Insurance Brokers Inc. has raised over $10,000 for Scouts Canada
    and nearly $25,000 for the Lutherwood Foundation and their Youth Mental Health programs.
