Hortica Selects RC Inspection from Risk Control Technologies

Joining the list of insurers leveraging the industry-leading loss control tablet-enabled solution

(August 21, 2012 – Toronto) Risk Control Technologies Inc., the industry-leading provider of loss control software solutions for insurers, today announced that Edwardsville, Illinois-based Hortica Insurance and Employee Benefits (“Hortica”) has selected the RC Inspection software solution to streamline its loss control operations.

Hortica was seeking a technology solution to streamline field data collection in the field using tablet devices, as well as automate other manual processes surrounding the loss control survey process, including inspection assignment, routing, report preparation, recommendation management and reporting.

“We initially approached Risk Control Technologies in search of a tablet solution for collecting data in the field,” said Zachary Bruce, Loss Control Manager for Hortica, “what we found, however, is that in addition to the field data collection, the RC Inspection product includes many more features which really makes it a full end-to-end loss control platform”.

Hortica specializes in providing insurance solutions for Garden Centers, Nurseries, Retail Florists, Wholesale Floral Distributors, Greenhouse Growers, Landscape Contractors, and Interior Plantscapers. Its loss control team performs loss control field surveys across the country to assist insureds with mitigating their business risks and exposures.

As part of the rollout of RC Inspection, Hortica plans to outfit its field loss control representatives with tablets, which will be loaded with the RC Inspection field application for field data collection. This will allow the field reps to collect risk data, photos, recommendations and diagrams in the field, even in locations without wireless broadband connections. Once data is collected in the field, it is then uploaded into a central database which allows underwriters to utilize the information in making underwriting decisions. This central data repository also offers data mining and reporting capabilities which have traditionally been unavailable in the paper-based loss control environment in which most insurers operate.

“We are very excited to work with the Hortica team” said David Hanley of Risk Control Technologies, “they focus on a very specific niche in the insurance industry, in which loss control plays a major role, and we look forward to helping them be even more efficient and effective in this area.”

The solution will be delivered to Hortica on a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) basis by Risk Control Technologies, leveraging cloud technologies.
