Burns & Wilcox Canada Opens Atlantic Canada Office with Plans for Growth

Wholesale Insurance Leader Will Focus on Delivering Market-Leading Service to Maritime Broker Community

April 4, 2012 – TORONTO — Burns & Wilcox Canada is opening a new office in St. John’s, Newfoundland, as the first step in the company’s plans to build a strong presence in Atlantic Canada. As an international market leader in wholesale specialty insurance, Burns & Wilcox provides brokers with the highest standard of client service including scope of offering, depth of expertise and an unparalleled commitment to service. It’s a combination the company feels is well suited to address the needs of the Atlantic Canada broker community who are looking to provide clients with the best coverage options.

“The common reality for brokers in Atlantic Canada is a client driven by circumstance with an urgent need. Quickly bringing the broker the right quote, with the binder, and allowing them to send the policy out to the client on a timely basis is the key to improving the value chain for everyone involved in the specialty insurance sector,” said Gary Hirst, executive director of Burns & Wilcox Canada. “The size of Burns & Wilcox and the relationships we have with domestic and international markets will enable us to offer a wide array of products and allow us to make a real difference for brokers in the Atlantic market.”

Burns & Wilcox Canada offers more than 300 products and fast turnaround to the Canadian brokerage community, recently created through the acquisition of the Chesterfield Group, a company known internationally for providing fast service in quoting and binding business. Burns & Wilcox Canada uses both Canadian domestic insurers as well as international carriers, including Lloyd’s underwriters. As part of the Kaufman Financial Group, Burns & Wilcox Canada has close ties to 39 Burns & Wilcox offices in the United States to facilitate trans-border business and offer global solutions to Canadian clients.

The St. John’s office will be led by industry veteran Steve McQueen, BBA, CIP, who joins Burns & Wilcox Canada with more than 17 years of experience in the Atlantic Canada broker community. McQueen will oversee operations for all of Atlantic Canada and is responsible for growing and building the business in the Atlantic region from the regional office headquarters in St. John’s. The St. John’s office is located at 40 Commonwealth Ave., Suites 119 & 120, Mount Pearl, NL, A1N 1W6, and can be reached by phone at 709-745-1606 or 709-745-0871.

“What attracted me to Burns & Wilcox Canada was the company’s commitment to client service and the investments they have made in professional development and technology over the years,” said Steve McQueen, branch manager, Atlantic Provinces for Burns & Wilcox Canada. “I look forward to offering our clients a better choice and a superior level of service.”
