Announcing the 2012 ICTA Winners

Insurance-Canada.ca honors technology leaders at annual conference

Toronto, ON (March 5, 2012) – An insurance company, a broker and a services provider were announced as the winners for the 2012 Insurance Canada Technology Awards (ICTAs) at the
organization’s annual Insurance Technology Conference, held March 5 in Toronto. The awards recognize insurance practitioners, service providers, and technology firms that demonstrate leadership in the development and implementation of technology in insurance.

For the 2012 awards, a seven member jury first evaluated a large field of candidates in three different categories, from which nine finalists – three in each category – were selected in early December 2011.

The jury further deliberated in the new year and their selection of the three winners was announced at the ICTA luncheon, a featured part of the technology conference.

P&C Distributors

  • AP Reid for ZipSure.ca, a customer-facing fully automated insurance service targeted at tenants of larger landlords.

Insurers

  • SGI Canada for the pioneering work implementing standards for downloading of broker copy of policy declaration pages and broker memos as part of their daily EDI download transactions.

SGI Canada was a member of a group submission for which at least two members of the group must be insurers and/or distributors. In this case SGI Canada was joined by Josslin Insurance Brokers as well as two technology providers, Zycomp Systems and MASTERCOM.

Suppliers

  • RMS for iClarify, a validation and valuation tool that provides brokers and insurers with residential property intelligence.

Congratulations to the three winners!

In addition to the special plaques awarded to the winners, the finalists and other group members also were awarded plaques in honour of their achievement.

According to Insurance-Canada.ca principal Doug Grant, the awards were developed to celebrate organizations that successfully realize the benefits of technology in improving service, reducing costs, and increasing productivity for insurance professionals. “Insurance is a transaction- and data-intensive business that can be positively impacted by the intelligent application of technology,” says Grant . “We want to acknowledge organizations that invest in solutions for the benefit of their customers, employees, and shareholders.”

The Insurance-Canada.ca Technology Conference, now in its tenth year, focuses on topics of interest to senior- level insurance people who utilize technology, and to suppliers of products and services to the industry. The Conference attracted over 500 delegates and 59 sponsors/exhibitors.

About the ICTAs

The annual Insurance-Canada.ca Technology Awards recognize innovative implementations of technology in P&C insurance in Canada. For each nomination, up to two technology providers identified as being instrumental in an application are recognized as co-nominees, as they do not use the technology for the business of insurance themselves.
