New Socio-Economic Realities Prompt Canadian Insurers to Re-think How They Do Business

LIMRA and LOMA to host first annual Canadian conference for industry leaders

WINDSOR, Conn., Mar. 15, 2011 – Today, LIMRA and LOMA announced it will host its inaugural Canadian conference, “Boomers, BlackBerrys and Beyond: Adapting to New Socio-Economic Realities,” in Toronto on June 28, 2011.

“The insurance industry is facing a transformation of the environment we operate in,” says Brent Lemanski, assistant vice president, LIMRA and LOMA Canada Client Services. “While many of the emerging issues and opportunities impact the industry at the global level, the conference will provide Canadian insurance executives with insight and perspectives specific to the Canadian market.”

Targeted towards industry leaders responsible for developing strategy, driving profitability, and building shareholder value, the one-day conference focuses on the need for change in order to mitigate risks and maximize rewards in an era of more frequent economic upheaval, dramatic demographic shifts, and rapid technological change.

A roster of thought leaders and industry luminaries will explore topics that include capturing market share in the baby-boom segment, techniques for leveraging social media, successfully re-tooling product and service offerings, and the impact of increased regulatory requirements. A panel of industry experts will also address key issues facing insurers in today’s socio-economic climate. Les Herr, president & CEO, Empire Life Insurance Company and a member of the LIMRA and LOMA board, will serve as master of ceremonies.

“Given we are in a period of such momentous change, this is an opportune time to launch a conference that is designed for Canadian executives from an exclusively Canadian point of view,” commented Lemanski.

Lemanski also noted that the first national conference will not replace the Education Section meetings that were previously held during LOMA’s Canada Annual Conference. “The Education Section meetings continue to be an important opportunity for middle-management professionals to benefit from discussions focused on tactical issues and to network with their peers. The meetings will be held in the fall, with dates and details to be announced next quarter.”
