Toronto, April 28, 2010 – Munich Re unveiled its new online underwriting manual, EDGE, to high praise at the Association of Home Office Underwriters (AHOU) conference in San Antonio, Texas. A leading life reinsurance company in North America, Munich Re is rolling out two versions of EDGE, one for Canada and one for the United States to meet the unique needs of each market.
“Edge is a state-of-the-art underwriting manual that we are proud to make available to all our clients in North America” said Mary Forrest, President and Head of North America (Life). “The introduction of EDGE reinforces our commitment to our clients and to underwriting excellence. This new manual was designed using the latest medical research, and its web-based format is user-friendly and easy to navigate from the Life, Disability and Critical Illness modules. Based on the overwhelming positive response we received at AHOU, we are confident that this new manual will meet and exceed the demands of the market.”
With the introduction of EDGE, Munich Re is spearheading a new and more competitive method of assessing risks. In Canada, EDGE is a web-based Life, Disability and Critical Illness Underwriting Manual developed by a team of physicians, underwriters, analysts and biometric research experts. It features many unique calculators, such as a liver function test (LFT) calculator that incorporates the applicants body mass index (BMI). Each calculator was developed based on Munich Res own research.
Powered by a GoogleTM search engine, EDGE contains the most sophisticated search function available in underwriting manuals on the market today. Responses are returned in context, allowing the underwriter to quickly determine which entry is most appropriate for their case. The manual is designed to accommodate a variety of skill levels so that new and seasoned underwriters alike can use it to better understand the assessment of a particular condition and to move quickly to an informed decision.
Joan Tolan, Vice President, Underwriting, Canada & Underwriting Best Practices, North America, says “Our current underwriting manual, MR Edge, has served our clients very well over the past 4 years. We listened to user feedback very closely and we are proud to introduce a new, vibrant, and content-packed EDGE. Our new EDGE will provide underwriters with a truly leading-edge tool to assist them in making fast, competitive decisions based on the most recent medical research.”
EDGE is scheduled to roll out to Munich Re customers in late May.
