RIMS Celebrates 60 Years as Risk Management Industry’s Preeminent Association

NEW YORK (February 17, 2010) – This year marks the 60th anniversary of The Risk and Insurance Management Society, Inc. (RIMS). Since its inception in 1950, RIMS has actively advocated for risk managers by developing pertinent educational programming, lobbying for effective policy, fostering a community of risk managers and offering students of the discipline opportunities to pursue careers in the field.

“Over the last 60 years, RIMS has evolved to become the organization for risk managers, providing its members with opportunities and resources to strengthen their professional development and to elevate the prominence of the discipline,” says Mary Roth, executive director of RIMS. “Over the last 10 years, specifically, RIMS has kept pace with the changing needs of its constituents, responding to a global climate that has progressively demanded better and stronger risk management. More critical strides are on the horizon for risk managers and I am excited to be part of this community at such a significant time.”

RIMS has marked recent years by testifying before Congress, making inroads in the risk management community in Japan, achieving record membership and conference attendance numbers, and crafting the very definition of enterprise risk management.

To celebrate these achievements and this milestone, RIMS has planned a year of special events and activities, catalogued on the new 60th Anniversary landing page where members, exhibitors and strategic partners are invited to share their memories, photos and experiences from the past 60 years. Included is a timeline highlighting facts about RIMS, its events and achievements. The site will be continually updated with the very latest information about the anniversary happenings.

RIMS thanks its members and industry partners for their continued support in the pursuit of its mission to advance the practice of risk management.
