Benefit Broker Segment Continues to be the Largest Single Distribution Channel for Voluntary Sales According to Eastbridge

AVON, CONNECTICUT, USA (June 11, 2009) – According to Eastbridge Consulting Groups tenth annual U.S. Worksite Sales Report, the Benefit Broker segment again claimed the largest percentage (46 percent) of voluntary/worksite sales in 2008 of any other producer segment. Total sales for the year were $5.225 billion and Benefit Brokers accounted for nearly $2.4 billion of that total.

The following chart shows the share of sales for each distributor segment and the segments increase over 2007 results:

Segment 2008 Share of Sales Inc/Dec Over 2007

Classic Worksite Broker

Worksite Specialist

In terms of total sales, only two of the five segments showed growth in 2008. The greatest increase this year came from the Classic Worksite Broker segment, says Gil Lowerre, president, Eastbridge. This segment saw a double-digit increase of almost 40 percent. Interestingly, last year the Specialist segment saw the largest growth. This year, however, the segment was down about eight percent, adds Lowerre.

The U.S. Worksite Sales Reportestimates sales for the entire voluntary industry with detailed data on the performance of 62 worksite marketing carriers, both group (voluntary) and individual (worksite) carriers/products — the largest number of carriers included in any sales report for the industry.
