Empowering customers to name their price for car insurance earns accolades from CIO magazine
MAYFIELD VILLAGE, Ohio – June 1, 2009 – Giving drivers more control over their car insurance costs has earned Progressive a spot on the 2009 CIO 100 sponsored by CIO magazine. Name Your Price® – Progressive’s exclusive online tool that enables drivers to tell the company what they want to pay for car insurance – has been selected by CIO for recognition. Each year, CIO magazine honors 100 companies around the world that use technology to give them a competitive advantage and help them grow.
“When we developed Name Your Price, our goal was to make it easy for customers to compare different car insurance packages before selecting the one that best met their needs,” said Ray Voelker, Progressive’s chief information officer. “Being recognized by CIO magazine for putting our customers in the driver’s seat is an unexpected bonus.”
When car insurance shoppers go to progressive.com for a quote, they enter basic information about themselves and their vehicles and then tell Progressive how much they want to pay for insurance. The Web site displays the closest available package of coverages, limits and deductibles offered based on the price theyve entered.
Users can then drag a “slider” bar to the right or left, and coverage options are changed on the fly making it easy for users to see how their price selection affects their coverage. For example, drag the slider bar to the right, and rates increase as coverages limits go up and deductibles go down. Drag the slider bar to the left, and rates decrease as coverage limits go down and deductibles go up.
