August 22, 2008 (Toronto, Ontario) – The Lew Dunn Memorial Foundation is pleased to announce that its Charity Golf Classic raised $300,000 for colon cancer research this week, bringing its nine year total to $1.7 million. This past Monday, more than 260 golfers teed-off at The Club at Bond Head, in Bond Head Ontario, for this annual fundraiser, named in memory of Lew Dunn, former President and CEO of Aviva Canada Inc.

The Lew Dunn Memorial Foundation established by the Dunn family and working in conjunction with the Toronto General and Western Hospital Foundation, was created in 1999 to promote colon cancer research and education. Funds raised from this event support the R. Lewis Dunn Scholarship in Colorectal and Oncologic Surgery, enabling the University Health Network, together with the University of Toronto, to train future professionals dedicated to working in this important field of medicine.
“Graduates from the scholarship program have already made some great strides and contributions to colon cancer surgery,” says Dr. Richard Reznick, Vice-President, Education, at the University Health Network. “Since the program was launched in 1999 our graduates, who are trained how to care for patients with colon cancer, have made a difference around the world, raising awareness of the disease, and developing better treatments.”
