OCRA and NER Combat Equipment Theft in Mexico and Southern United States: ISO

NEW YORK, N.Y. and MEXICO CITY, Mexico, January 31, 2008 The Oficina Coordinadora De Riesgos Asegurados (OCRA) and National Equipment Register (NER) today announced a strategic alliance to combat the theft of construction and farm equipment and the cross-border movement of stolen equipment in the southern United States and Mexico.

Through the joint endeavor, NER will support OCRA operations in Mexico through training and machine-identification support services to help identify equipment stolen in Mexico and the United States.

Owned by Mexican insurance companies, OCRA is a Mexican firm dedicated to the location and recovery of stolen vehicles in Mexico. Jose Cayon, West Coast operations manager for OCRA, explained that “through this joint endeavor, OCRA will be able to identify equipment whether stolen in Mexico, the U.S., Canada, or any other country. OCRA will also be better placed to combat the cross-border movement of stolen machines. We are excited about this strategic alliance.”

David Shillingford, president of NER, observed, “The key factors resulting in high theft rates and low recovery rates of equipment are similar across international borders, so it makes sense that NERs services and solutions for U.S. law enforcement, insurers, and equipment owners are adapted and applied in other countries.”
