Guidewire Sets New Performance Standard For Insurance Claims Solutions

Guidewire ClaimCenter® supports 8,500 concurrent users on IBM System x and System p server combination

SAN MATEO, CA, October 3, 2007 – Guidewire Software®, a leading global provider of solutions to property and casualty and workers compensation insurers, today announced that it has set a new standard for performance and scalability of insurance claims solutions, achieved on an IBM hardware platform.

Guidewire ClaimCenter successfully met a claims performance benchmark at the IBM Innovation Center in San Mateo, California, while supporting 8,500 simulated concurrent users. Median response time was 0.3 seconds and 90th-percentile response time was 2.5 seconds. In addition, horizontal scalability results prove that the solution can scale to support considerably higher user populations by using additional hardware.

In the test, ClaimCenter ran on a cluster of nine IBM System x3850 application servers, each with 4 single core processors, and a single p570 database server with 4 Dual Core processors. Redhat 4 and Tomcat supported the application tier while AIX 5.3 and Oracle supported the database tier. The database included 2.5 million claims, 5 million exposures, and 100 million activities together occupying 1 terabyte of space in an IBM DS8000 Storage System. Load was provided by 17 IBM System x servers together simulating 8,500 concurrent claim adjusters, repeatedly exercising a broad set of application functions according to usage profiles based on actual data from leading insurance claims organizations. Additionally, IBM and Guidewire conducted some resiliency tests and Guidewire received IBMs Storage System Proven certification.

Guidewire recognizes the scalability and performance needs of P&C insurance carriers as they modernize their core systems, says John Seybold, chief technology officer, Guidewire Software. We are pleased that these recent ClaimCenter benchmarking results demonstrate Guidewires efforts to continuously improve its products to ensure they best serve the needs of the market.

The performance test was run on Guidewire ClaimCenter 4.0, the most recent release of the first complete, web-based claims system for the property and casualty insurance industry. ClaimCenter 4.0 provides application server clustering for virtually unlimited scalability. ClaimCenter supports IBM WebSphere software, the leading platform for mission-critical enterprise applications and IBM System p servers.
