The Canadian Internet is heating up.
AUGUST 16, 2007 – At one time, Canadian Internet development was, well, a little frozen. But no longer.
According to its new report, Canada Online Overview, eMarketer estimates that 21 million Canadians used the Internet regularly in 2006, an increase of one million users over the previous year.
In fact, new figures from comScore rank Canada as the ninth-largest Internet user population in the world. (comScore’s estimate is slightly lower than eMarketer’s because it does not include usage at Internet cafs or via mobile phones and PDAs.)
With 63.4% of the population online, Canada’s Internet penetration is roughly the same as the US.
By 2011, eMarketer expects penetration to increase to 71.9% and 24.8 million Canadians to be regular Internet users.
