New York, N.Y., June 18, 2007 The Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) has sponsored the publication of Enterprise Risk Management for Dummies, authored by members of RIMS ERM Development Committee. The easy-to-read reference guide, published by Wiley Publishing, Inc., is being distributed to RIMS members this month and will be provided complimentary as a benefit to new members for a limited time.
Enterprise Risk Management for Dummies is the newest addition to RIMS growing ERM portfolio of services, says John Phelps, member of RIMS board of directors and director of business risk solutions for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, Inc. The risk management responsibility within our members companies is changing to be more involved with a broad array of business uncertainties previously not considered to be within their field of responsibility. Risk managers now offer more strategic value as they help their organizations optimize their risk taking decisions. As a result, RIMS has seen a demand from the risk management community to learn more about ERM. This, in turn, has inspired RIMS to expand its ERM offerings, from Professional Development workshops to the ERM Center of Excellence and growing the ERM track at RIMS 2007 Annual Conference & Exhibition.
Enterprise Risk Management for Dummies was authored by members of RIMS ERM Development Committee, Joanna Makomaski, risk manager at Enbridge Gas Distribution, Inc., and Beaumont Vance, senior enterprise risk manager at Sun Microsystems. In the tradition of Dummies books, the guide uses a simplified approach, complete with cartoons and humorous icons to dispel worries and inspire confidence. The 44-page reference booklet offers a valuable start-up guide for those new to ERM, complete with easy-to-understand ERM terms and useful tips and instructions on developing a solid ERM program. Enterprise Risk Management for Dummies also offers readers a background on riskwhy it is needed, a variety of ways to identify and prioritize it and how to manage risks effectively.
