ACORD Awards Honor Outstanding Achievements and Leadership at 2006 Forum

LAS VEGAS, NV – May 22, 2006 – Recognizing outstanding accomplishments and achievements as well as leadership in the implementation of standards, ACORD (www.acord.org) held the 14th Annual ACORD Awards during the ceremony at the ACORD LOMA Insurance Systems Forum in Las Vegas.

The event began with a panel discussion about the new ACORD Standards Framework and Strategy. Panelists included:

  • Cindy Maike, Director, Standards Planning, ACORD

  • John Kellington, Chief Technology Officer, Sr. Vice President, The Ohio Casualty Group, ACORD Board of Directors & Chair, ACORD Standards Committee

  • Monique Hesseling, Vice President Research & Development, ACE Group, ACORD Standards Committee

  • BA Scott, Assistant Vice President, Enterprise Architect, New York Life, ACORD Standards Committee

  • Deborah M. Smallwood, Vice President, Insurance, TowerGroup

The awards ceremony was kicked off by a welcome address by Gregory A. Maciag, president and CEO, ACORD. He emphasized to the more than 250 attendees, how essential standards implementation was to the industry and congratulated the winners on their hard work and vision. Remarking on the importance and participation of ACORD’s volunteer members, Maciag commented that “Members are what make ACORD, ACORD.”

ACORD Board Chair Barbara Koster, SVP and CIO, Prudential Financial emphasized the importance of the member involvement stating that: “As an industry organization, we rely on hundreds of people, like you, to serve on various committees and working groups and to put standards into action. I know that I can speak for Prudential and my associates on the ACORD Board when I say that we are all proud to be part of this world class industry standards organization.”

The awards were presented by Denise Garth, vice president, Membership and Standards. “As ACORD standards continue to grow and spread around the globe, it is through the efforts of members who have exhibited the vision and dedication to develop and implement ACORD standards and led the industry by their example,” said Garth.

Four of this year’s biggest winners were ACUITY with 6 awards, Genworth and The Hartford tied at 8 each, and Applied Systems with a total of 9.

For the first time, ACORD presented Distinguished Service Awards to three member volunteers, one from each of its standards domains. “This special honor recognizes their leadership and dedication to the development and implementation of ACORD standards,” said Maciag.

  • Maggy Leon, Guy Carpenter

  • Reinsurance & Large Commercial Domain
