C-L-U: Three Letters to Help Canadians Keep More of Their Money

Elite advisors launch keepyourmoney.ca consumer information website

April 7, 2006, Toronto, ON – The CLU (Chartered Life Underwriter) Institute today launched a consumer information website www.keepyourmoney.ca. The user-friendly site educates Canadians about the benefits of working with a CLU designated financial advisor – a specialist in advanced life insurance, tax, estate planning and business succession solutions.

“The right financial advisor will do more than sort through the complex financial jungle,” said Kris Birchard, CLU Institute chair. “A CLU advisor and Keepyourmoney.ca provide a road map to navigate through the maze of comprehensive, cradle-to-grave financial planning.”

“A CLU will put you on the road towards a secure retirement, advise on how to save for your children’s education, how to protect your assets, and – especially important as the filing deadline nears – structure your finances to minimize your taxes,” said Birchard.

The website offers helpful articles, useful links and a tool to find a local CLU.

The CLU designation is the gold standard of excellence in the financial services industry. Membership in the CLU Institute is the consumer’s best guarantee that an advisor has invested the time to develop his or her skills, and will abide by the highest professional and ethical standards. A holder of the CLU designation, for example, must complete at least three years of study, and collect a minimum of 30 continuing education credits every year.

A recent survey of CLU members found more than 37 per cent of CLUs provide advice to over 400 individual and/or corporate clients. 79.3 per cent advise more than 100 clients. Moreover, those clients trust CLUs with their wealth. 59.6 per cent of CLUs manage more than $10 million of assets in their practice.

“Trust is the most important quality to look for when choosing an advisor,” said veteran advisor Dean Owen, CLU. “Trust that for 80 years CLU advisors have been privileged to enjoy.”
