Allstate sponsors George Chuvalo in bringing anti-drug message to Markham teens

MARKHAM, ON, Feb. 24 2006 – Allstate Insurance Company of Canada is proud to bring former heavyweight boxing champion George Chuvalo and his life-changing Fight Against Drugs presentation to the students of Milliken Mills High School in Markham on February 24 at 10 a.m.

“Allstate Canada helps to make our communities safer for everyone through a variety of initiatives, including our support of Crime Stoppers organizations,” said Karyn Toon, Director, Corporate Relations. “We understand that crime is an outcome of substance abuse, and that’s why we believe the work George Chuvalo is doing in his Fight against Drugs is so important.”

Chuvalo was Canada’s boxing champion from 1958 to 1979, but it was only after he retired from the ring that he faced his toughest opponent, drugs. Chuvalo lost his wife and three of his sons to drug abuse. He now travels tirelessly across Canada speaking to teens about how a family can be destroyed when one of its members uses drugs.

“Through his Fight against Drugs, George Chuvalo is reaching teenagers to help them make wise lifestyle choices at an important time in their lives where they may have to make decisions regarding drugs, alcohol and the criminal consequences that can come from substance abuse,” Toon said. “We are honoured to bring programs like this to young people in our community.”
