Natural Disasters and Their Impact on the Insurance Industry: Round Table Forum, Dec. 8, 2005

Global climate change, earthquakes, floods, windstorms, ice storms – The frequency of national disasters and their ramifications on our global environment are increasing steadily and relentlessly.

The insurance industry has tackled these issues on several fronts including the creation of the Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction (ICLR).

More than ever these natural disasters are causing grave and overwhelming concern for the Insurance Industry, their customers and Government. These issues have profound affect for business and government and their impact on IT are challenging and intense.

Selected Areas of Concern:

  • Do we or can we really understand the true underlying risks involved?

  • As insurers-how do we adjust to this new phenomenon?

  • Can we provide an economical IT platform flexible enough to adapt to this changed business climate?

  • Are we confident that the Industries DR and BCP programs are working and in place? What about the Industry customers?

  • Are the Industry reserves adequate? Is a Disaster Fund needed?

  • How do we insure that governments at all levels fulfill their role, as they are essential to the solution?

  • How can the industry and IT in particular educate the general population as to desirable measures to reduce personal risk and damage exposure?

A Round Table Forum is being held on Thursday December 8th at 7:30 AM – Noon to confront these timely issues. Invitees for the EXECUTIVE ROUND TABLE positions are currently being drawn from all facets of the Insurance Industry including, P&C, the Reinsurance business, the largest Brokers, the largest Insurance adjusters and the Actuarial profession. A cross section of industry leaders from business, IT and the Government will be attending.

The Forum will preview keynote speakers and/or a CEO panel who will open the event with enlightening discussion and debate.
