Progressive.com Takes Top Honors In Watchfire® GómezPro Q2 2005 Insurance Carrier Scorecard

Named Best Overall; Leads in Most Categories and Tasks

MAYFIELD VILLAGE, Ohio – (June 29, 2005) – Progressive.com, the Web site of The Progressive Direct Group of Insurance Companies and The Progressive Corporation, has been named #1 Overall in the Watchfire® GómezPro Q2 2005 Insurance Carrier Scorecard . The site has taken top honors in nine out of ten Scorecard rankings published since 2000.

The Watchfire® GómezPro Scorecard is a focused comparison of online offerings. In this assessment, 16 insurance carrier Web sites are compared to one another and against industry best practices. In the comparison, four categories of content are reviewed, along with five tasks. Each is assessed and benchmarked, which produces the rating. Progressive.com won three of four categories (Functionality, Ease of Use and Privacy & Security), tied for first place in the fourth (Quality & Availability) and placed first in four of five task rankings (Get Insurance, View Policy, Get Service and Learn & Plan).

“Making things on our site fast, easy and accurate has always been our focus,” said Toby Alfred, general manager, customer experience, Progressive Direct. “We’re delighted to be recognized by Watchfire GómezPro and by the more than 2.5 million consumers who visit progressive.com each month.”

Alfred said Progressive Direct is continuously looking for ways to improve its Web site. For example, thanks to recent enhancements to the site, it’s now faster and easier than ever to get a quote, with quote time reduced by about 20 percent to an average of just over seven minutes.

Progressive was the first major car insurer in the world to introduce a Web site (1995), first to sell auto policies real-time online (1997) and first to give its customers online access and control of their policies via a customer service site (1998). In March of 2003, Progressive clinched a spot on the coveted Fast Company magazine “Fast 50 Champions of Innovation” ranking thanks to progressive.com’s “rate ticker,” an up-to-the-minute display of auto insurance rates available to consumers from Progressive and other top companies provided by the Web site’s online comparison rating service.

The Progressive Group of Insurance Companies, in business since 1937, ranks third in the nation for auto insurance based on premiums written and provides drivers with competitive rates and 24/7, in-person and online service. The products and services of the Progressive Direct Group of Insurance Companies are marketed directly to consumers by phone at 1-800-PROGRESSIVE and online at progressivedirect.com through the Progressive DirectSM brand. The Common Shares of the Progressive Corporation, the Mayfield Village, Ohio-based holding company, are publicly traded at NYSE:PGR. More information can be found at progressive.com.
