NEW ORLEANS, LA, June 16, 2005 – The American Association of State Compensation and Insurance Funds (AASCIF) named the Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) of Nova Scotia Best in Show for its “Work Safe. For Life.” social marketing campaign at its annual conference in New Orleans.
AASCIF is an association of state and provincial workers’ compensation boards from across North America, including those from states like California, New York and Texas where the private sector also offers workplace injury insurance. In addition to the Best in Show award, Nova Scotia’s campaign took first place for television advertising, radio advertising and its external campaign as well as second place in the print advertising, website and annual report categories.
“Workplace injuries are a significant problem in Nova Scotia. Every day, 25 people are seriously injured on the job,” said Stuart MacLean, Vice President, Corporate Development and Prevention with the WCB of Nova Scotia. “The social marketing campaign is part of our broader strategy to make more Nova Scotians aware of the importance of safety and ultimately reduce the number of people hurt on the job.”
“While recognition from our peers across North America is an important validation of our approach, we are focused on creating a social marketing program that changes the way people think and act right here in Nova Scotia” said Shelley Rowan, Vice President of Marketing, Communications and Human Resources with the WCB. “It’s important to produce a campaign that cuts through the clutter and makes people think carefully about safety in the workplace.”
The “Work Safe. For Life.” campaign was developed by the WCB with Extreme Group, a Dartmouth, Nova Scotia-based communications agency.
The Workers’ Compensation Board of Nova Scotia promotes workplace injury prevention and provides comprehensive workplace injury insurance to employers and workers in Nova Scotia.
