St. John’s Rehab Hospital is the first hospital with the capacity to send claims to WSIB electronically through MediAR+ linked to the Emergis Health Claim Management solution
Montréal, Québec (February 21, 2005) — Sending health claim related bills is now easier for hospital billing administrators at St. John’s Rehab Hospital in Ontario with their patient billing and accounts receivable solution, MediAR+®, from MediSolution (TSX: MSH). The MediAR+ interface has been adapted to provide direct electronic data interchange (EDI) access to Emergis’ Health Claim Management for Workers’ Compensation solution that provides bill processing and payment for the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) of Ontario. This will now allow hospital billing administrators to electronically route their claim related bills to WSIB via Emergis, without having to print on multiple WSIB forms.
St. John’s Rehab is the first hospital to benefit from this updated version of MediAR+. Also, through the Emergis Health Provider Portal, the hospital now has access to a web application that allows them to view the status of all submitted bills at any time. This service is both fast and accurate, and will allow hospital billing administrators to obtain real-time billing information.
“We were able to reduce costs by switching to electronic claims processing, and that frees up resources to serve our patients in other ways,” said Ed Ziesmann, Program Director at St. John’s Rehab. “With these new tools St. John’s Rehab has less paperwork and our cash flow from WSIB has improved. We set up the new EDI interface in June of this year and already we submit more than 95 per cent of our bills to WSIB electronically.”
The WSIB is the largest payer of work-related health claims in Canada, receiving more than 300,000 claims and processing approximately four million bills annually. “We are pleased to be working with MediSolution and Emergis to improve claim processing, making it easier for hospitals to do business with the WSIB,” said Rob Timlin, Director of Operations at WSIB.
MediSolution expects that by the end of 2005 all clients will be sending claims to WSIB through the new MediAR+ interface. “We are pleased to be working together with the WSIB to provide this added functionality to hospitals and healthcare organizations,” said Paul Hill, Executive Vice President, MediSolution Ltd.
