Empire Financial Group Launches Next Phase of groupweb Using DWL

Real-time updates for self-service Plan Administrator site helps Empire reduce costs and improve customer service

Toronto, Canada – April 7, 2004 – DWL, the leader in Enterprise Business Services software, today announced that Empire Financial Group has launched phase two of groupweb – an initiative to achieve proven cost reduction with web-based self-servicing capabilities for group business. Following on the success of Empire’s initial implementation of DWL InsuranceT for Group Life and Health, which provides a password protected site for electronic plan administration, phase two of the project now adds full update and enrollment capability in real-time, using version 3.0 of DWL Insurance for Group Life & Health.

“Initially, the cost savings derived from this initiative are being realized through increased operational efficiency, such as eliminating time-consuming paper-based processes,” said Jake Hilberdink, vice president, employee benefits, Empire Financial Group. “DWL’s solution gives us the flexibility and the robust functionality that allows us to expand self-service business processes as our business requires, but still leverage our existing technology infrastructure.”

The enhanced update functionality allows plan administrators to change personal and dependant information at a divisional level within a member organization, thereby giving administrators and Empire the most current and up-to-date plan member data. DWL’s solution, portions of which were co-developed with Empire, provides more than 140 business rules, supporting 33 functions and 26 business processes specifically developed for group enrollment and update processes. It also allows Empire to optimize business processes by updating back-end source administration systems and proprietary customer databases in real-time. Empire is running DWL’s solution on IBM’s WebSphere application server and IBM’s DB2.
