Hyland Integrates with Leading GIS Software Product

CLEVELAND April 6, 2004 Hyland Software, Inc., developer of the award winning OnBase enterprise content management (ECM) software, has created an integration with ESRIs ArcIMS product. The integration allows users to link documents stored in OnBase to locations on maps within ESRI ArcGIS applications. ESRI is a leader in geographic information system (GIS) technology and its software is the standard in state and local government and is used by more than 24,000 government agencies around the world, including most U.S. federal agencies and national mapping agencies; 45 of the top 50 petroleum companies; and all 50 U.S. state health departments.

With the OnBase ESRI integration, users have the ability to analyze geographic data and access the documents that drive that information, all in a single interface. Documents can be any format including, text, images, engineering documents, photographs, or videos.

Users easily can hot link between map objects and documents, which can be associated to multiple map objects. In addition, documents for multiple layers can be retrieved in one query. Because information is directly tied to a particular location, retrieval time can be measured in seconds rather than days.

The OnBaseESRI integration is highly advantageous to numerous industries, including government, financial, utilities, education, insurance and health care. For example, an insurance company analyzes risk rates by reviewing the underlying documents linked to a traffic fatalities map to understand the causes of a high accident area. A public works department retrieves CAD drawings and blueprints associated with area development projects. By linking OnBase documents and map objects through a simple point-and-click interface, organizations can save hundreds of man-hours in retrieval time alone.

The OnBaseESRI integration can provide significant value to federal, state and local agencies, as well as commercial organizations, as they seek to leverage their critical data assets in response to legislative mandates and in support of their internal business processes,” said J. Andrew Ferree, Hyland Softwares director of Public Sector Solutions.
