TORONTO (December 17, 2003) The CIP Society, a division of the Insurance Institute of Canada, announced today that Carolyn Walsh, B.Ed., FCIP, CCIB, and a Partner at CCV Insurance and Financial Services Inc. has been selected by the nomination review committee as the 2003 recipient of the GTA Fellow of Distinction Award.
The Fellow of Distinction Award was created to recognize outstanding achievement to the insurance industry in Toronto. Colleagues nominate insurance professionals for The Fellow of Distinction Award, which is presented annually to a Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP).
In making the announcement, Carla Blackmore, FCIP, 2003 Chair of the Ontario CIP Society and Vice President, Zurich North America Canada said, “Carolyn represents the pinnacle of insurance professionalism and is a selfless leader who is dedicated to the insurance industry. She is truly a Fellow of Distinction.”
Carolyn has served the Insurance Institutes in a variety of senior positions for over 10 years. She was a board member and the Past President of the former Toronto Society of Fellows, a member of the Faculty Committee for Ontario and the founding committee member and a chair for multiple terms of the Fellows of the CIP Society Charity Gala for the Starlight Foundation, now in its 10th year. Ms. Walsh is currently on the Governing Council of the Insurance Institute of Ontario, chair of the Academic Committee of the Insurance Institute of Ontario and a member of the Ontario CIP Society Committee. Camille Alexander, the current chair of the CIP Charity Gala Committee, says, “In all of those roles Carolyn has shown true integrity, compassion and teamwork. She inspires, motivates and encourages others to do the same.”
Ms. Walsh was born into the insurance world, her father owned John J. Walsh Insurance Brokers. During her teen years she worked for her father’s business and then for Liberty Mutual. After completing her B.Ed. she returned to work for her father eventually taking over the business from him in 1990. In 1993 Carolyn merged her business with Caledon Insurance and later merged it with Credit Valley Insurance to form CCV Insurance where she is currently a partner.
Carolyn Walsh will be honoured at the CIP Society New Fellows’ Reception at the Albany Club January 22, 2004.
