Accident Support Services Ltd. Receives Approval to Open a Collision Reporting Centre in Partnership with the Durham Regional Police Service

Toronto, November 4, 2003 — Accident Support Services Ltd., Facilitators of Collision Reporting to the Insurance Industry, is pleased to announce that we will open a Collision Reporting Centre with the Durham Regional Police Service on January 5, 2004.

The Durham Collision Reporting Centre will provide enhanced value to the public in the investigation of vehicle collisions. Rather than Police attending the scene of the accident, citizens would exchange information, and then they would have 48 hours to report property damage only collisions, towed or driveable, at the Collision Reporting Centre. Police will continue to attend collisions involving injury or death, alcohol, criminal activity, vehicles transporting dangerous goods or police vehicles.

The Durham Collision Reporting Centre will be located at the Police Station, 1710 Kingston Road in Pickering. The Centre will be equipped with our new state of the art technology, the Collision Reporting and Occurrence Management System (CROMS). Upon the citizen’s arrival at the centre, they will be greeted, and a member of our staff will help them complete the police report, direct them to police personnel as needed, photograph the damage to the vehicle, apply the “Damage Reported to Police” sticker, and offer them the opportunity to contact their broker or insurance company directly from the Police Station, providing the citizen with a one stop service opportunity.

Accident Support Services is under contract with the Barrie, London, Peterborough, North Bay, Owen Sound, Brantford, Belleville, Hamilton and Toronto Police Services, as well as with the Ontario Provincial Police. Our goal is to facilitate an active partnership between the police and insurers in post accident care by providing knowledgeable advice and assistance to accident victims with empathy, integrity and availability. This results in increased convenience for the public as well as greater road safety. Our supporting insurers fund the program through the savings they realize as a result of participation; therefore, there is no cost to the public for these additional services.
