Empire Life Reduces Cost and Enhances Channel Service with Solution from DWL

Producers and Employer Administrators To Be Empowered with New Self Service Transactions

Atlanta, GA October 23, 2002 – DWL, the leader in Unified Business Services (UBS) software, today announced that The Empire Life Insurance Company has gone live with the first phase of a broad based initiative to achieve proven cost reduction with web-based self servicing capabilities for their group business. Empire has implemented DWL Insurance(TM) for Group, a Unified Business Application that will allow Empires more than 1500 Brokers to access requests from Empires back end administration systems. Empire has also started the second phase of their project, providing self-service capabilities to their Employer Administrators.

Empire must offer self-service capabilities to our Group clients to allow them to gather information, determine eligibility and ultimately to make changes to their plan data. Clients include producers, plan administrators and plan members and all of them will benefit from the software tools we are now developing with DWL.

The DWL solution is designed to leverage our back-end systems and to cost effectively deliver web based front-end tools. We are building and implementing functionality in phases with very minimal impact on our existing infrastructure, said Jake Hilberdink, Vice President, Employee Benefits.

DWL Insurance(TM) for Group will allow Empire to optimize business processes with internal staff and external Brokers, Administrators and Members and reduce the time required to fulfill requests by giving them real time sales and service capability online. Unlike other solutions, the application will update all data in real time and supports both Web and wireless devices.

“In the last year or so, the dominant perception of the Web in the insurance industry has changed from that of a frightening challenge to established retail distribution channels to an enormous opportunity for potential savings in time and money,” says Celent senior analyst Matthew Josefowicz.

“Some carriers reported increased efficiencies as great as 90% on communication with agents. Carriers who are slow to implement Web-based communication systems for their producers and customers will quickly find themselves at a competitive disadvantage.”
